A few comments: the change in the run-pass balance amounts to about 5 plays per game that used to be runs that are now passes, but this is all attributable to using Holiday as a passer rather than as a runner. He had about 70 more carries in 2001 than in 2002. In 2002, the tailbacks have actually averaged about 3 more carries per game than in 2001 (roughly 32 to 29) and have averaged about 4.35 yards per carry in 2002 versus 4.25 in 2001.
If Setta were kicking as well this year as last, he'd be roughly 18 of 21, so N.D. would have 24 more points on offense.
Except for the rushing offense, which has declined slightly (though has improved slightly if Holiday is excluded), every other category has improved dramatically.
Interestingly, N.D. is between 5 and 6 points better on offense, between
5 and 6 points better on defense, and thus 5 games better on the record.
