TS Ida Misses!

Tropical Storm Ida sideswiped us, coming ashore at Mobile, about 100 mi west of here. We got some wind gusts, a lot of rain and a day off from work.

Guest GM Hugh Polley has announced assignments for our next COLONIAL DIP game, ÒLt KijeÓ. See p 10. His House rules and Rules for the Bond Market follow.

WeÕll be starting 18GL as soon as Ò#9 CoalÓ gets down to $4000 in the Bank. It has $8,203.

That still leaves us with pages to fill.

IMMEDIATE OPENINGS:
BLACKBEARD: Position #1 is available.
18GL: Have 4, need 1 to 3 more.
HISTORY OF THE WORLD "Idomeneus": Have 3, want 2 to 4 more.
WIZARD'S QUEST: Need 1 to 3 more.

BORIS'S BULLETIN BOARD

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH: "The only time you donÕt want to fail is the last time you try." -- Charles F. KetteringÊ

PICTURE OF THE MONTH: Dave and Debbie Anderson 0200 Sunday at the 2009 WBC.

NEW ON THE WEBSITE:   COLONIAL DIPLOMACY and Bond house rules have been added.

Tom ButcherÕs new e-address hasnÕt been working well; also cc his old address.

BOOS & KUDOS

The Madame Bolduc Press Excellence Award goes this month to to Rick Copeland for his BALKAN WARS press.

This month's Ms Nar Super-Sudsy Bomb is lobbed at Dave Anderson for his lousy typing (there being no one with late orders). Rendering it verbatim detracts from the quality of the Ôzine, yet should the GM correct it, it might obscure a secret code.

Deadline for most games is 1800 CST 4 Dec 09.

Italian Navy on Strike!
Spring 1903

2009A

MINAS MORGUL: It seems Italy is looking west for her next campaign, but the Turks may offer battle considerably closer to home. Neither the French nor the Brits seem concerned about bottling up Gibraltar, the latter employing the bulk of her forces containing Tsarist expansion into NWY. The Kaiser has his usual two-front problem, facing four French armies in the West and three Russian armies in the East. A Rum-Ank anyone?

TROOP MOVEMENT:
Austria retreats A BUD otb. Italy retreats F ION to TUN. Austria disappears. France builds A BRE. Germany builds A BER. Italy builds F NAP. Russia builds A MOS & A WAR. Turkey builds F CON.

ERRATA: GM forgot to transcribe FranceÕs F Mar-GoL to the last game report. This means Byzantine F WM cannot retreat to GoL but can retreat to TUN.

Ragnociti: The Summertime Blues are upon us. The lines appear to be stabilizing, so the time is becoming ripe for an alliance shift. The only question is whether the Beast has been weakened enough that FLP can afford internal strife. The French have the best defensive position, the Lombards the worst, but an attack on the Lombards would surely bring the Beast back into play. Interesting times.

TROOP MOVEMENTS

Byzantine A CAR must retreat otb or to CRO or FRI.

Due next time are orders for retreats and Fall 728. And Press.

EMBASSY BEAT

Byzantines to Lombards : The GM in his headlines was slanting towards me as I had jumped from 10 centers to 14 centers in the first year. Tunis and Venice taken in year 2 lead me to 15 only 3 from victory. Year 4 saw me finally grounded outÊ of Trent and back down to 14. This is my year of collapse unable to stem the tide of armies.
I openly gave away Fer to the Pope or Lombards trying to shorten my lines and using the money that should have bought 3 armies to stem the naval advance of France.
That put me down to 13 centers and then 12 or 11 because I cannot guess correctly against you.Do I feel bad about being so close and losing.??? No. If with my 40 ducats that first year and flush with cash and only 27 ducats worth of expenses.Had I ÊÊbuild 4 units instead of trying a finesse move. I may have won on sheer power. But, that is for others to ponder. So until the French or Pope stab and head toward victory. I will just try and hold what is left as historically done. The Pope is now at 10 and has Bologna in his pocket for 11,but you already know that.
Byzantines to Papacy: The only indulgence your Eminence deserves is that of how you hide your true intentions out to the rest of the world and one day all will be revealed and your true wickedness will be revealed too late for the world to react and on that day there will be a great gnashing of teethÊ and mournful cries that will not be heard.

Pope to Byzantines - We realize that 240 ducats is a hefty sum to pay immediately. ÊWe would be pleased with a smaller sum of 12 ducats per turn to pay for your indulgences.

ERRATA: Last months report included a phantom BUL A PLO.

MIRKWOOD: Rumania looks to be the next to be consumed by the Balkan wolves as her centers canÕt support one another. Greece holds on with the fleets picking up opportune centers when able to. The Turks are holding their own while raiding Greek centers. Serbia and Bulgaria are ascendent, but the bookies favor Serbia since it will have Turkey as a possible ally in BulgariaÕs rear.

Transylvania to World -- ÊWithÊjust one wrong move and the BulgarsÊopenly helping the leader. The leadership accepts the that the war is lost and the Serbian war machine vwill reign supreme.
We propose a concession to Serbia on honorable term

Serbia to Rumania - You are attacking me simply to punish me for taking out Albania so quickly? A feeble excuse. Besides, I just got lucky is all. ÊI guessed right on the first turn and the rest just fell into place. ÊHow come you are attacking me and not the Bulgarians? ÊHe is closer. ÊAnd he is much more dangerous to you than I am.

The Bottom Line

This is BORIS THE SPIDER, a 'zine dedicated to the play of multiplayer games. BORIS is usually published following the first Friday of the month by Paul & Meg Bolduc, 203 Devon Ct, Ft Walton Beach, FL 32547-3110 and currently has a subscription price of $12.75 for 12 issues in hardcopy stateside or a token $1 by e-mail (waived if oversees). A hardcopy sub will also include an e-mail sub. Make checks payable to "Paul Bolduc". BORIS can be reached at (850) 863-9081, or prbolduc@aol.com. If phoning, expect to be greeted by an answering machine. If we're here, not engaged in an epic computer battle or enthralled in baseball, hockey, or college football, and recognize your voice, you may get to talk to a real human, so don't hang up upon hearing our recorded message (it changes every power outage).
