My Robot's mouth is a variation of the non-neon mouth from Dan Monroe's site. I spent about $6.00 on 12' of 1/2" acrylic rod. The rod is cut and bent to mimic the original neon, then back lit. At first I tried some automotive side marker lights, but they didn't evenly light the whole mouth area. Last night I tried an entire string of red Christmas lights layered out to match the rods. It looks great, better than I thought it would. It even lights the bent pieces at the top of the mouth. Right now the color is too red, should be more orange. I think I can get it to match using colored gels in front of the lights. Total cost of lighted non-neon mouth $9.00!
