About ZOE:

ZOE is a 3D Tic Tac Toe game for the Palm Pilot and Windows CE. It features five levels of play, a demo mode and an option to allow the computer to move first. The demo mode lets the user choose the level of difficulty for each side. At the higher levels, ZOE can beat any of the competing 3D Tic Tac Toe games I've found for the Pilot (and the PC for that matter). Let me know if I'm wrong.

ZOE requires the amazing WABA, a Java-like Virtual Machine for handheld devices. Download the latest version of WABA here. After you download WABA, you need to install "waba.prc" and "waba.pdb" on your Palm Pilot. Instructions for Windows CE are available on the download page.

ZOE is based on an applet I wrote in 1996 to learn Java. Because of the memory and CPU limitations of the Palm Pilot, the first port was extremely slow. For example, a demo game (X and O both at Level One) took almost four minutes to complete on the Palm emulator. After re-writing and optimizing, the same game completes in less than a minute.

Why call it ZOE? In a three dimensional coordinate system, the third coordinate is often labeled with a 'z'. Substitue the 'T' in Toe with said 'Z' and you have ZOE. As an added bonus, the letter 'Z' often looks like the number 3 in certain fonts. Um...yeah.

Get four in row before your opponent. Easy, no?

NEW! Compiled Version! (2-20-2003) Requires Palm OS 3.0 or Higher

This version does not require the Waba Virtual Machine to run. It was compiled from Waba source files into Palm machine code using the amazing WabaJump. This version is MUCH faster than the straight Waba version. This is considered an experimental release. It works perfectly on my device. Your mileage may vary...use it at your own risk.
