Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final chapter in the
popular Metal Gear series. After a huge shock playing as Raiden is MGS2
then Big Boss is MGS3, we finally get to play as Snake again. And
nearly all the questions are answered. The story is everything you have
come to expect from Hideo Kojima, plot twists and questions are still
here. The game picks up about five years after Metal Gear Solid 2,
Snake is sent to a Middle Eastern city to hunt down and kill Liquid
Snake, the main villain from MGS1. As I said, questions are finally
answered, some light is shed on the Patriots, we learn the founding
members! Almost every character from the Metal Gear games make a return
including, Naomi, Roy Campbell,
Otacon, Raiden, Mei Ling, Rosemary, Vamp, Meryl and even Johnny. As
well as some new comers, The B&B Corp also called the Beauty and
the Best Unit, Ed, Jonathan, not to be confused with Johnny and Olga's
child, Sonny. I will not talk about any more of it because you will not
want
it spoiled. The gameplay has been revamped from MGS3, there are more
CQC moves to master. The new aiming system is a big step for hard-core
Metal Gear fans like myself, but you quickly get used to it and it
feels at right at home. Boss fights are as weird and intense as ever,
with the new Beauty and the Beast Unit. There are three new gadgets to
help you on your quest, Octocamo, which can mimic the colors of almost
any surface, so your suit changes color, a nice step up from MGS 3. The
second gadget is called the Solid Eye, it is a scope, radar, night
vision and thermal all in one. The last one is Metal Gear MK2, this can
scout ahead to make sure it is safe, knock people out cold, and collect
weapons. It is equipped with a stealth so there is little chance you
will be spotted when using it. There is a whole new way to
play, rather than sneaking around the whole time, you can either fight
with rebel soldiers or find your own way through, it is very fun to try
new ways to get past battles, and then you might find a new weapon or
an IPod song. Yes, I said it, Snake has on IPod, you can download
songs, or find ones as you explore a new area. These range from songs
from other Kojima games like Snatcher or other songs that we've never
heard before. As well as collecting songs, there are over sixty
different weapons to collect, however, some weapons require you receive
on emblem. Emblems are the awards of MGS 4, you get these by meeting
certain stipulations, these include things like get fifty knife kills
or get spotted less than twenty-five times. Some are not very hard to
get, while others are near impossible. Some gives you a little extra
for your trouble. For example, the Assassins Emblem gives you an Altair
suit, you may remember seeing this in the video called "Assassin's
Solid" where Snake was wearing the outfit. There is a whole new way to
collect weapons, instead of finding all of them, you can now buy some
of them from Drebin. You can get Drebin Points or money by collecting
weapons on the battle field. With these points, you can of course, buy
weapons, ammo, add ons like grenade launchers and launder guns with on
ID lock. Overall, Drebin is very nice to have around, rivaling the
Merchant from Resident Evil 4. Metal Gear Solid 4 had some great music,
just like the rest of the Metal Gear games, there is an alert theme for
all five areas, and the music is intense and everything you would have
come to expect from Kojima. There are five different areas in the game,
the Middle East, South America, Europe, and two I don't want to spoil
for you. MGS 4 has tons of replay value. First, you keep everything
after you beat the game. Second, finding new weapons and IPod songs.
Third, Metal Gear Online which is amazing. Overall, Metal Gear Solid 4
is the best game on PS3 and my second favorite game ever made. Kojima
has created two master pieces and for that, I thank him. I have enjoyed
playing the Metal Gear games and I am looking forward to anything else
he makes in the future. This is a classic and every gamer should own
it.-Brandon
