Gaelic Garb for the Laddies

Any male guest wishing to incorporate some Celtic flavour into his wedding attire has options ranging from subtle Celtic accessories to a full fledged kilt package, including kilt, fly plaid, Prince Charlie jacket, sporran, sgian dhubh, kilt hose and flashes, and ghillie brogues. It just depends upon your budget. But, please remember, a kilt is an investment. A well made and properly cared for kilt can last a lifetime, and is always an appropriate outfit at any wedding for formal function. And, unlike a tuxedo, a kilt can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on how it is accessorized, which makes it appropriate for the most formal as as more casual events. For example, the same kilt looks as good with sandals and a t-shirt at a picnic as it does with a formal jacket and dress shoes at a wedding.

A variety of jacket styles are appropriate to wear on formal occasions with a kilt. These include a number of Scottish-style jackets, such as the popular Prince Charlie, the Montrose, the Argyll, and the Doublet. These are most often made in black, but can be other colours, such as hunter green, or crimson, to coordinate with various tartans. Also appropriate with the kilt are tweed jackets, and certain military uniform jackets. An excellent source of how to wear and accessorize a kilt is So You're Going to Wear the Kilt, by J. Charles Thompson.
