Brigantia Celtic Re-enactment - Cool web site for those with a drop of feisty Celtic warrior blood in the veins! Contains EXCELLENT info on Celtic history (with a superb timeline), pre-christian religion, literature, and customs. Go have a look and see why Lynnette often asks herself when confronted with a challenge, "What would Boudicca do?"
Cailin Rua Batiks - Our dear friend Lisa Hunt is, among other impressive achievements, an artist who makes beautiful batiked items, many with Celtic designs.
Clan Fergusson Society of North America - a very generous and social organization offering excellent genealogical assistance those with Ferguson antecedents as well as an informative newsletter. Lynnette's paternal grandmother was a Ferguson, and Lynnette's Highland Dance competition kilt is therefore in Dress Ferguson tartan.
East of the Hebrides - our friends Bill and Karen Reid have been providing excellent Celtic music and entertainment up and down the East Coast as well as Celtic travel opportunities for years. See ya at the Philly Midwinter in February!
The Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts - located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, this is the summer school where Lynnette studies Scottish step dancing. They offer outstanding week-long sessions where you can take up to five classes a day in various Celtic subjects such as bagpipes, Gaelic language, highland dance, weaving, etc.
James Madison University - Lynnette THOROUGHLY enjoyed doing her undergraduate degree in English lit here, and yet she still managed to graduate with honors in the end!
Lynnette's Personal Web Page - Celtic Dance, Travel Information, Professional/Academic/Creative Writing, Pictures, etc.
New World Celts - a web page with excellent comprehensive links on the long (believe it or not!) history of Celts in the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Newport News Police Pipe and Drum Corp - Great bunch of folks led by our friend Tom Crouch. Their mission is to support the fallen, and they do a wonderful job. They also throw one heckuva fun party!
The Police Emerald Society of Tidewater, VA - Celtic law enforcement buddies of ours. Nobody said a good cause couldn't also be good fun!
Queen's University - Located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, this is where Edward completed his undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics and his MSc in Physics. Queen's University has its own tartan!
Rob Lockwood, Scottish Piper - Lynnette's good buddy, Rab, a.k.a. Cu Mor, is a long-time piper and Scottish single malt fancier. He also takes Gaelic classes with Lynnette, where they find ways to make up Scots Gaelic slang!
Simon Fraser University - Located in Vancouver, Canada, this is where Edward did his PhD in Physics. They also have a world-famous pipe band!
Stirling, Scotland - Edward's father's family, the Brashes, originally came from Stirlingshire in Scotland where they were brass artisans. John Brash immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1815 on a free land grant program designed to encourage deforestation and farming. There are many excellent sites to visit in Stirling, including Stirling Castle, the beautiful William Wallace Monument, and Bannockburn (where the Scots defeated the English in 1314).
The Scottish Gaelic Learners Association - the name says it all!
Scottish Society of Tidewater - our friend Scott MacGregor is the web master for our local Scottish society's web page, and he does a fabulous job! The SST newsletter, edited by our pal Marcey Burton-Hunter, is also archived on this site.
Shenandoah Shakespeare - This Virginia entity was founded by Lynnette's OUTSTANDING JMU Shakespeare professor, Dr, Ralph Cohen. Originally an acting troupe committed to performing Shakespeare plays in a non-stuffy, interactive fashion the Bard would have recognized and applauded, it has expanded now to include a permanent Elizabethan indoor theater (Blackfriars) and is currently raising money for a replica of Shakespeare's outdoor theatre (the Globe). They also do a lot of educational outreach activities. Do yourself a favor and catch one of their performances - you don't have to be a Shakespeare scholar to understand and enjoy the experience.
Tidewater Friends of Folk Music - Run by a really nice group of musicians dedicated to keeping musical folk art forms alive in the Tidewater area. They host a great traditional folk arts festival each fall as well as bring consistently high quality international, regional, and local folk musicians to town to perform.
University College Dublin - the excellent university in Ireland where Lynnette did her MA in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama. It was orginally a Catholic college when Trinity College Dublin did not admit Catholics, hence UCD's superior departments in Celtic languages, Gaelic culture, and indiginous Irish history. UCD is also James Joyce's alma mater.
The University of Edinburgh - Lynnette has taken outstanding summer school courses here in Scottish literature, art, and history.
The Wild Geese Today - a web site all about the history and the current activities of Ireland's far flung exiles around the world. Lots of interesting links on Irish culture, politics, etc.
