ONCE
SAVED ALWAYS The doctrine of "Once saved, always saved is also called the Eternal Security of the Believer! The premise of this doctrines is that all you have to do to be saved is believe in YAHshua the Messiah. Once you have believed, you name is recorded in the Book of Life and your Salvation is Eternally Secure. Your salvation is so sure, in fact, that it doesn’t matter how you live your life or what bad things you may do; you are and will remain saved eternally. But is this doctrine really true? Millions of Christians the world over believe it to be true. What do the inspired Scriptures say about this belief? I think that the truth will astound you! May YAHWEH open up your eyes to see, your ears to hear and your heart to receive the truth of His Word. In YAHshua's name I pray, Amein. "But I intend to remind you, though you once knew this, that YAHWEH, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe," Jude 1:5. "Therefore, as the Set-apart Spirit says, ‘Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tried Me, proved Me, and My works forty years. Therefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.’ As I swore in My wrath, ‘If they shall enter into My rest…’ Look out, brethren, lest there be in any of you a wicked heart of unbelief in falling away from the living Elohim, but encourage one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened by the deceivableness of sin. For we have become partakers of the Messiah if we hold fast the beginning of our trust to the end, while it is said, ‘Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. For who, having heard, rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Mitsrayim (Egypt), led by Mosheh? And with whom was He grieved forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He sware that they would not enter into His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they were unable to enter in because of unbelief," Heb. 3:7-19. (The Scriptures version throughout) Brethren, do you not understand that what happened to the children of Yisrael in the wilderness was an example to us? Look at what the Apostle Shaul (Paul) wrote to the Corinthians and us: "For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were immersed (baptized) into Mosheh (Moses) in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food (the bread from heaven [YAHshua], cf. Ex. 16:1-36; Jn. 6:31-71), and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was the Messiah (cf. Ex. 17:1-7; Num. 20:1-13; Jn. 7:37-39). However, with most of them Elohim was not well pleased, for they were laid low in the wilderness. And these became examples for us, so that we should not lust after evil, as those indeed lusted. And do not become idolaters as some of them, as it has been written, ‘The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play’ (cf. Ex. 32:1-35). Neither should we commit whoring, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell (cf. Num. 25:1-18), neither let us try the Messiah, as some of them also tried, and were destroyed by serpents (cf. Num. 21:4-9), neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer. And all these came upon them as examples, and they are written as a warning to us, on whom the end of the ages have come, so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall," 1 Cor 10:1-12. Notice first of all, brethren, that the Apostle Shaul said in verses 6 & 11 that what happened to ancient Yisrael in the wilderness happened as examples and they were recorded as our warnings. The Greek word for examples is found in the Greek lexicon of Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance as: #5179 tupos, too'-pos; from 5180; a die (as struck), i.e. (by implication) a stamp or scar; by analogy, a shape, i.e. a statue, (figuratively) style or resemblance; specially, a sampler ("type"), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning):- en-(ex-)ample, fashion, figure, form, manner, pattern, print. Brethren do you not realize how serious our FATHER YAHWEH was in causing all these things to come to pass in the Old Testament to be recorded for our warning at the end of the age in which we live? Think brethren, 23,000 (+) people actually perished for the express purpose of creating an example for us! Why, the cost in lives to create this warning should reveal to you just how serious YAHWEH is in our Salvation! Can you not see, brethren, these people were actually sacrificed to create for us a written record as a warning?! But a warning for what? That those saved in the end of the ages by the blood of the Lamb (YAHshua) can be lost if they do not endure and hold fast the beginning of their trust firm to the end! (Heb. 3:14). What a warning my dear brethren! Will we take heed? Did you not notice, brethren, that Yehudah (Jude) revealed in verse 5 that the people brought out of Mitsraim (Egypt) were saved! Yes brethren, they were saved by the blood of the Passover Lamb (YAHshua) in type in Ex. 12, "And I shall pass through the land of Mitsrayim on that night, and shall smite all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim, both man and beast. And on all the mighty ones [gods] of Mitsrayim I shall execute judgment. I am YAHWEH. And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I shall pass over you, and let the plague not come on you to destroy you when I smite the land of Mitsrayim...And Mosheh called for all the elders of Yisrael and said to them, ‘Go out and take lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and slaughter the Passover lamb. And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin, and you, none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. And YAHWEH shall pass on to smite the Mitsrites, and shall see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and YAHWEH shall pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to smite you. And the children of Yisrael went away and did so—as YAHWEH had commanded Mosheh and Aharon, so they did. And it came to be at midnight that YAHWEH smote all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock," Ex. 12:12-13, 21-23, 28-30. "By belief, he [Mosheh] performed the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should tough them," Heb. 11:28. "In all their distress He was distressed, and the Messenger of His Presence saved them. In His love and in His compassion He redeemed them, and He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old," Isa. 63:9. Can any one of you honestly say in truth that YAHWEH didn’t save His people Yisrael by the blood of the Passover Lamb? I dare say you cannot for of a truth Yisrael was not only saved but redeemed out of the house of bondage for YAHWEH says so Himself: "Say, therefore, to the children of Yisrael, ‘I am YAHWEH, and I shall bring you out from under the burdens of the Mitsrites, and shall deliver you from their enslaving, and shall redeem you with and outstretched arm, and with great judgments, and shall take you as My people, and I shall be your Elohim. And you shall know that I am YAHWEH your Elohim Who is bringing you out from under the burdens of the Mitsrites," Ex. 6:6-7. Notice that the children of Yisrael were redeemed in truth back in Exodus chapter 15: "In Your kindness You led the people whom You have redeemed, in Your strength You guided them to your set-apart dwelling," Ex. 15:13. In fact, Yisrael was redeemed (saved) even before they made the covenant with YAHWEH in chapter 19. YAHWEH saved them, then asked them to obey Him after they had already been delivered and it is the same way for us! YAHWEH saves us then asks us to obey Him! YAHshua is our Passover Lamb (1 Cor. 5:7-8). Examine the following Scriptures that reveal we are saved first and then asked to obey: "You have seen what I did to the Mitsrites, and how I bore you on eagle’s wings and brought you to Myself. And now, if you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples—for all the earth is mine—and you shall be to Me a reign of priests and a set-apart nation," Ex. 19:4-6 "Afterward YAHshua found him in the Set-apart Place, and said unto him, ‘See, you have been made well. Sin no more, so that no worse matter befalls you," Jn. 5:14. "And YAHshua, straightening and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, ‘Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Did no one condemn you?’ And she said, ‘No one, Master! And YAHshua said to her, ‘Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more," Jn. 8:10-11. Notice after the sinner is saved by YAHshua, He then gives this simple command: "Go and sin no more." And just what is sin? Sin is defined in YAHWEH'S word as: "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law," 1 Jn. 3:4. Thus we see it is after YAHshua saves us with His blood we are to go and sin no more (i.e. go and break YAHWEH'S law no more, but be obedient). For Shaul reveals that your master is whom you serve: "Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves servants for obedience, you are servants of the one whom you obey, whether of sin [breaking YAHWEH'S law] to death, or of obedience [keeping YAHWEH'S law] to righteousness [through YAHshua]," Ro. 6:16. So we understand:
Look at the following Scriptures: "And all these came upon them as examples, and they are written as a warning to us, on whom the end of the ages have come, so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall," 1 Cor. 10:11-12. "But the Messiah [YAHshua] as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the boldness and the boasting of the expectation firm to the end," Heb. 3:6. "For we have become partakers of the Messiah if we hold fast the beginning of our trust firm to the end," Heb. 3:14. "Do not, then, lose your boldness, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the desire of Elohim, you receive the promise," Heb. 10:35-36. "Look out, brothers, lest there be in any of you a wicked hear of unbelief in falling away from the living Elohim," Heb. 3:12. "For it is impossible for them who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Set-apart Spirit, and have tasted the good Word of Elohim and the powers of the age to come, and fall away, to renew them again to repentance—having impaled for themselves the Son of Elohim [YAHshua] again, and put Him to an open shame. For the ground that is drinking the rain often falling on it, and is bearing plants fit for those by whom it is tilled, receives blessing from Elohim, but if it brings forth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near being cursed, and ends up by being burned," Heb. 6:4-8. "let us therefore do our utmost to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience," Heb. 4:11. "But the Spirit distinctly says that in the latter times some shall fall away from the belief, paying attention to misleading spirits, and teachings of demons," 1 Tim. 4:1. Let no one deceive you in any way, because the falling away is to come first, and the man of lawlessness is to be revealed, the son of destruction," 2 Thes. 2:3. "For if we sin purposely after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a slaughter offering for sins, but some fearsome anticipation of judgment, and a fierce fire which is about to consume the opponents. Anyone who has disregarded the Torah of Mosheh dies without compassion on the witness of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think shall he deserve who has trampled the Son of Elohim [YAHshua] underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was set-apart common, and insulted the Spirit of favor. For we know Him who has said, "Vengeance is Mine, I shall repay, says YAHWEH, and again, YAHWEH shall judge His people. It is fearsome to fall into the hands of the living Elohim," Heb. 10:26-31. "But the righteous shall live by belief, but if anyone draws back, My being has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but of belief to the preservation of life," Heb. 10:38-39. "See to it that no one falls short of the favor of Elohim, that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, by which one, like Esau, who for a single meal sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wished to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it with tears," Heb. 12:15-17. "For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Master and Savior YAHshua the Messiah, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the set-apart command delivered unto them. For then the proverb has proved true, ‘A dog returns to its own vomit,’ and ‘A washed sow returns to her rolling in the mud," 2 Pet. 2:20-22. [cf. Lk. 11:24-26.] My dear brethren, did you hear the warnings of the preceding Scriptures for us? The warnings are that:
All these things happened to the children of Yisrael in the wilderness and that is why Jude recorded for us the dire warning found in Jude 5. I quote it again: "But I intend to remind you, though you once knew this, that YAHWEH having saved a people out of the land of Mitsrayim, afterward destroyed those who did not believe." Let us also fear lest we too who have been saved by YAHWEH out of the land of Mitsrayim (the world) afterward be destroyed because we do not heed and believe His warnings to us. The saddest part about the whole "Once Saved, Always Saved" doctrine is the very premise i.e. foundation of all you have to do is believe in YAHshua the Messiah. So we will soon learn belief (faith) is more than mere mental assent! Just what is belief (faith) that we are saved through? The word translated belief (faith) is found in the Greek lexicon of Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance and is defined as follows: #4102; pistis, pis'-tis; from 3982; persuasion, i.e. credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly, constancy in such profession; by extension, the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself:--assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity. Did you notice that faith was more than just mental assent? Did you notice that faith was also said to be constancy in such profession (that would be enduring to the end constantly!) and it also had to do with the reliance on the system of religious (gospel) truth itself?! The Scriptures themselves reveal this to be true for it is written: "My brothers, what use is it for anyone to say he has belief [faith] but does not have works? This belief [faith] is unable to save him. And if a brother or sister is naked and in need of daily food, but one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ but you do not give them the bodily needs, what use is it? So also belief [faith], if it does not have works, is in itself dead. But someone might say, [You have belief [faith], and I have works.’ Show me your belief [faith] without your works, and I shall show you my belief by my works. You belief that Elohim is one. You do well. The demons also believe—and shudder! But do you wish to know, o foolish man, that the belief [faith] without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father declared right by works when he offered Yitshaq his son on the altar? Do you see that the belief [faith] was working with his works, and by the works the belief was perfected? And the Scripture was filled which says, ‘Abraham believed [had faith in] Elohim, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.’ And he was called, ‘Elohim's friend.’ You see, then, that a man is declared right by works, and not by belief [faith] alone. In the same way was not Rahab the whore also declared right by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so also the belief [faith] is dead without the works," Jas. 2:14-26. Can you not see that just as Yisrael was saved and afterward required to obey YAHWEH, we are also saved first and afterward required to obey? Can you not hear what the Set-apart Spirit reveals in the following Scriptures?: "For by favour [grace] you have been saved, through belief [faith], and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of Elohim, it is not by [our] works, so that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in the Messiah YAHshua unto good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Eph. 2:8-10. [i.e. we should walk in obedience to His laws, commandments, statutes and judgments for these are the good works YAHWEH prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. cf. Ez. 33:14-15; 18:9, 17, 19-21; 26:26-27]. Notice that neither the favor (grace), belief (faith) nor works (of obedience) are ours. All are a gift of Elohim! All are imparted and imputed to us by the Set-apart Spirit of YAHWEH through YAHshua the Messiah (c.f. Titus 3:4-7; Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 5:9-10; 1 Pet. 1:2, 22; 1 Cor. 6:11, 12:7-13; Ro. 4:1-25; Gal. 3:13-14). All that is required is that we allow the Spirit to lead us in the paths of righteousness (Ro. 8:9-14; Gal. 5:16-25). Yes, all of our works are as filthy rags to our Heavenly FATHER YAHWEH (Isa. 64:6). That is why YAHWEH promised us a New Covenant based upon better promises: "But now He [YAHshua] has obtained a more excellent service, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was constituted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. For find fault with them [the weakness of the people, not the covenant itself], He says, ‘See, the days are coming’ says YAHWEH, ‘when I shall conclude with the house of Yisrael and with the house of Yehudah a renewed covenant not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Mitsrayim [c.f. ex. 19:4-8], because they did not continue in My covenant [c.f. ex. 32:1-35; Acts 7:37-43], and I disregarded them,’ says YAHWEH. Because this is the covenant that I shall make with the house of Yisrael after those days, says YAHWEH, giving My laws in their mind, and I shall write them on their hearts [by the Set-apart Spirit 2 Cor. 3:1-18; Ez. 36:26-27], and I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people," Heb. 8:6-10 [c.f. Jer. 31:31-33]. Surely you are not so blind that you cannot see that YAHWEH saves us first by His favor (grace) as we have absolutely nothing to recommend us to Him. All we have to offer is our filthy rags and putrefying sores. The whole head is sick and in need of cure. (Isa. 64:6; 1:6). If YAHWEH did not offer us His grace we would all perish together for it is written that: "There is none righteous, no not one! There is no one who is understanding, there is no one who is seeking Elohim. They have all turned aside, they have together become worthless. There is none who does good, no, not one. Their throat is an open tomb, with their tongues they have deceived, the poison of adders is under their lips. Whose mouth is filled with cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood, ruin and wretchedness are in their ways, and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of Elohim before their eyes," Ro. 3:10-18. Just how bad and depraved is mankind in YAHWEH'S eyes? Can mankind cure himself of his ills? What says the Scripture?: "Does a Kushite change his skin and a leopard its spots? You who are taught to do evil are also unable to do good," Jer. 13:23. And again: "The heart is crooked above all, and desperately sick—who shall know it?’ Jer. 17:9 [c.f. Jer. 7:24, 16:12, 18:12, 23:17] If it were not for the grace of YAHWEH, we would all perish in our sins! Thus YAHWEH first grants us grace (favor) that we may be forgiven and molded into the vessel YAHWEH chooses us to be! But what is this grace that is offered to us? Is it just forgiveness of sins or is it even more? The word used as favor or grace is found in the Greek Lexicon of Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance under the following: #5485; charis; from 5463; graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude):--acceptable, benefit, favour, gift, grace(- ious), joy, liberality, pleasure, thank(-s, -worthy). How does YAHWEH apply the divine influence upon our hearts and it be reflected in our lives? YAHWEH revealed how through the prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah! "And the word which came to Yermeyahu (Jeremiah) from YAHWEH saying, ‘Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I let you hear My words.’ So I went down to the Potter’s house, and saw him doing a piece of work on the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was ruined in the hand of the potter, so he remade it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. Then the word of YAHWEH came to me, saying, ‘O house of Yisrael, am I not able to do with you as this potter? Declares YAHWEH. Look, as the clay is in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand, o house of Yisrael," Jer. 18:1-6. "And now, O YAHWEH, You are our FATHER. We are the clay, and You our potter. And we are all the work of Your hand," Isa. 64:8. Oh my beloved brethren, we must yield ourselves as soft clay into the hands of the Heavenly Potter, FATHER YAHWEH for we are all broken and marred vessels that need to be remade into another vessel! But to be remade we have to yield ourselves to YAHWEH as soft malleable clay that is workable. If the clay is too watery it will be like soup—worthless, for it will not have body to be moldable. If the clay is too dry it will not stick together but crumble in pieces and be just as useless. Thus, we must yield ourselves as moldable clay to the Heavenly Potter, but how? It is evident that those once saved out of Mitsrayim were not moldable and thus, they became vessels of destruction. How can we be molded into vessels of glory fit for the Master’s use? The Apostle Shaul reveals the answer: "However, the solid foundation of Elohim stands firm, having this seal, ‘YAHWEH knows those who are His’ and ‘Let everyone who names the Name of the Messiah turn away from unrighteousness.’ But in a large house [Messiah's house, Heb. 3:6] there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some unto value and some unto no value. If, then, anyone cleanses Himself from these matters, he shall be a vessel unto value, having been set-apart, of good use to the Master, having been prepared for every good work," 2 Tim. 2:19-21. We must turn away from unrighteousness. But what do the Scriptures reveal unrighteousness to be? "All unrighteousness is sin…," 1 Jn. 5:17. And again: "Sin is the transgression of the law" [of YAHWEH], 1 Jn. 3:4. To become a vessel of honor fit for the Master’s use, we must put away our sins (i.e. breaking YAHWEH'S law). This can only be accomplished by abiding in YAHshua the Messiah the true vine for He said: "I am the vine, and My FATHER is the gardener. Every branch in Me that bears no fruit [of practicing righteousness by the fruits of the Set-apart Spirit, Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 5:9-10; Ro. 8:1-16] He takes away. And every branch that bears fruit He prunes, so that it bears more fruit. You are already clean because of the Word [Teaching] which I have spoken to you. Stay in Me, and I stay in you. As the branch is unable to bear fruit of itself, unless it stays in the vine, so neither you, unless you stay in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who stays in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit. Because without Me you are able to do naught. If anyone does not stay in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up. And they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you stay in Me, and My words stay in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you. In this My FATHER is esteemed, that you bear much fruit, and you shall be My taught ones," Jn. 15:1-8. It is only as we abide in YAHshua the Messiah, the true vine, that we can bear true fruits of righteousness. Those who do not abide in YAHshua the true vine are gathered in the end of this age by the messengers [angels] and cast into the fire of Gehenna to be burned as they are vessels of wrath (c.f. Mt. 13:24-30, 13:36-43; Ro. 9:21-24). Notice that according to YAHshua these branches were in Him at one time but they did not continue to abide in Him (v. 6). Thus we have seen that the doctrine of once saved always saved is not sustained by the Scriptures because:
"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Master, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Master," 1 Cor. 15:58. "Suffer hardship with us as a good soldier of YAHshua the Messiah. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in the affairs of this life, in order to please only Him who enlisted him as a soldier," 2 Tim. 2:3-4. Above all, remember the word of our Master YAHshua," No one, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the reign of Elohim," Lk. 9:62.
