Isaac I. Brokaw, born on October 25, 1758 in Franklin Township, Somerset County, NJ, and baptized on December 3, 1758, at New Brunswick, NJ, was the son of Catherine and Isaac Brokaw. In the fall of 1776 he enlisted as a private in the Revolutionary Army. He served through 1779 and fought at the battle of Monmouth, June 28, 1778. He was still resident in Franklin Township when he applied for a pension, which provided $56.07 per annum, in 1832. Isaac died on February 21, 1841, and made provision for his sister, Phebe, in his will, as well as his descendents.
About April 10, 1786, Isaac married Maria (Martha) Boice. Maria, born in 1762, was the daughter of Fulkert and Hendrickse Boice (Buys). Martha died on October 10, 1836.
