In Loving Memory of "Pops" the Craftsman
Clayton M. Stehman
April 29, 1914 - May 22, 2003
![]()
In his lifetime he was an avid hunter, fisherman, downhill snow skier, snowmobiler, railroader, motorcyclist, golfer, wood craftsman, son, husband, father to many generations, uncle, probably cousin to many, friend to many, and "Geraldine" entertainer. This page is dedicated to his craftsman side because it is what is applicable to our commercial business website. We have included a few family-type photos. I thank Uncle Glenn for providing many of the pictures you'll see below. Besides that I am in need of emailed pictures from family who wish to be included. Many of you may already have pictures on your own website which you would like to share. Just email the link to your website and I can include the link here. Hope you enjoy. You may contact me here.

Backyard of Laramie home filled with Dad's beloved flowers.
Outside of his shop (converted garage) with more fabulous flowers.
Inside of his shop on a typical production day.
In Laramie, Wyoming this scene outside his shop is typical.
One of those special moments when Pops was caught next to a display of his treasures in his son's home at Christmas time 1999.
Pops enjoying a moment off and a Scotch with his son at his son's home 1999.
Pops in his shop 1999.
The craftsman hard at work.
Day's end and time to relax.
Good thing Kay never caught him doing this on her kitchen table ... giggle.
Pops hard at work on a new shelving unit for his living room.
Shelving unit is finished and ready to be installed.
Installed shelves make a wonderful display in his living room.
This picture shows many items he created; including the wall paneling, headboard, shelf, and bowls.
This picture shows the headboard and bowls he made for one of his guest rooms.
This exact replica of a Union Pacific Railroad "Challenger" was built by Sierra Vista craftsman, Wilbur Fry, a retired machinist for the Canadian National Railroad. Clate purchased the model from Wilbur in 1993. Pops built a special glass display case trimmed in cherry and displayed it in many businesses around Laramie until he finally decided to place the display in his living room.
Here Pops is standing next to the "Challenger" replica at the grand opening ceremony for the newly constructed Meredith & Jeannie Ray Regional Cancer Center building of the Ivinson Memorial Hospital. He donated it to the Hospital where it was placed in the lobby of the new cancer center.
The following three pictures are of his shop as it looked a few days before he passed away.
Two pictures of his last bowl still on the lathe.
The bottom of the bowl was inscribed by his son days after the funeral and reads "Clayton Stehman's Last Bowl May 21, 2003. His Spirit will live in our hearts forever. April 29, 1914 - May 22, 2003." This has become the most precious item he ever crafted and we are proud to display it in our home.
