About the Artist
Barbara Testa
is a New England watercolor artist whose realistic work includes many
landscapes and floral paintings. She is known for her vivid colors and
varied subject matter.
A lifelong love
of art led Barbara to pursue formal studies in painting, drawing and
sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has also studied with
Betty Dunlop and Robert Pomfret; and has attended workshops with Mario
Cooper, Dale Myers, Betty Lou Schlemm, Jan Kunz, and Janet Walsh.
Barbara enjoys
painting the New England countryside, with its many farms and back roads
providing almost unlimited subject matter for her to capture the changing
color of the seasons. Spring and summer afford her the opportunity to use
gardens and their flowers for inspiration, while her fall and winter
scenes invite one on journeys through foliage and snow.
Travel through
Italy has allowed Barbara to capture the essence and beauty of the
countryside in watercolor. A recent visit to Japan provides inspiration
for paintings of the many temples, shrines and gardens that abound there.
Several of
Barbara’s paintings were used in set decoration by Walt Disney
Productions in the movie "Dan in Real Life", filmed in Jamestown
and Newport, RI.
Her watercolors
are in many private and corporate collections throughout the United
States, Canada, and Japan. She has exhibited at the Rhode Island
Watercolor Society, Arnold Mills Community House, Attleboro Arts Museum,
Newport Art Museum, Depot Square Gallery, Oakland Gallery, and many New
England art festivals.
