Course Description:

Algebra 1-2 is a course designed for students who've had difficulty with mathemmatics and were recommended for this class by their previous math teacher. The course will split time between instruction of selected algebraic topics and independent work on the ALEKS web based math program in the computer lab. Topics will include solving equations, inequalities, graphing functions, adding and multiplying polynomials, factoring quadratics.

Goals: STUDENTS WILL:

Achievement:

These goals will be achieved through a variety of classroom activities, computer web-based ALEKS, notebooks, homework, and assessment.

Daily Requirements:

Students should bring the following items to class everyday:

  1. Homework.
  2. Three ringed binder in which to keep examples, homework, paper, graph paper..
  3. A scientific calculator (although a graphing calculator is recommended. A TI-83 is sufficient, a TI-84 Plus or TI-84 Silver Ed. is recommended if purchasing new).

Homework will be assigned daily. With the block schedule, most days students will have double assignments. Students must budget their time and do Intermediate Algebra work daily. Students will receive about 2-3 hours HW weekly. Students may be given class time in which to begin an assignment. Homework can consist of classwork, bookwork, and/ or worksheets. All work should be done in pencil. Homework is due the at the beginning of the period of the next day the class meets. Late homework, due to excused absence, must be turned in within a week after the date of return. Credit is based on accuracy and effort. All appropriate work must be shown. Homework must be headed with: name, date, period, and assignment description.

Notebook Policy:

Even though the students will have a traditional textbook to refer to, it is extremely important that they keep an organized notebook.
