Soil is more than sand, dirt, clay, pebbles, and rocks.  It is a mixture of mineral particles, air, water, and billions of plants and animals.  All of these are interacting with the nutrients and mixing the mineral particles throughout the soil. Earthworms, isopods, bacteria, and fungi assist to decompose dead plants and animals.  The nutrients from the decomposing materials are left in the soil for plants.  The plants provide food for animals and humans.

If you notice when digging beneath the soil, it comes in a variety of colors, textures, sizes and odors.  When dry, soil has a unique characteristic.  But when soil is wet, it can be sticky, slick, slippery, and can be molded and squeeze into different shapes and objects.

What a really unique natural resource!!!!
