Bios of living members

Cancer has been called the polite killer; that is it rarely takes a person without warning. Unlike many other diseases, you have warning and time to get your affairs in order. Don took full advantage of this and prepared instructions on everything from Life Insurance to maintenence of his vehicle. This has made life much more bearable for his wife since he passed away. Whether you are a Carcinoid patient or not, we suggest that you do the same for your family.

Donald Clifford Jones
June 30, 1953 - January 25, 2002

"Don" was born on June 30, 1953 in Washington, DC, to Clifford and Francis Jones. He grew up in Temple Hills, MD, and graduated from Crossland High School in 1971. He attended the University of Maryland, majoring in criminology.

After graduation, Don began working as a security agent at Woodward and Lothrop. While at "Woodys," he worked his way up the corporate ladder, from agent to Security Manager, then Operations Administrator.

In 1990, he made a career change. Don joined the Marine Corps -family. Assuming the job as MWR Director, for MCAGCC, he packed up the family and moved to Twentynine Palms, CA. After six years of desert life, Don and family relocated to Quantico, VA where he served at Headquarters Marine Corps. He took pride in seeing the implementation of RecTrac during his tenure. He served as the Marine Corps representative on the Armed Forces Recreation Society of the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Don married Linda Neely of Ashland, VA, on May 2, 1987.
They have two sons, Clifford age 12 and Russell age 10.
They reside in Stafford, VA.

Don's Carcinoid journey began in December of 1999, when he was diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer. Exploratory surgery revealed a large (10cm) tumor at the top of his pancrease that was wrapped around and part of his portal vein. Because of the location and involvement with the portal vein, removal of the tumor was not possible. Later tests revealed more Carcinoid tumors in his liver and throughout his abdomen. Follow up tests also revealed that his Carcinoid was of the atypical and very aggressive type. His Carcinoid did not respond to Sandostatin, chemo or any other therapy that was tried and lost his fight after two years in January of 2002.
