Marjorie M. Moomey
1925 - June 17, 2002

Mickey and husband Bill Marjorie M. Moomey, 77, a researcher from 1951 to 1994 for the magazine and television programs of the National Geographic Society, died of Carcinoid Cancer June 17, 2002 at home in Chevy Chase, MD.

Mrs. Moomey won an Emmy for individual work in news and documentaries in 1989, for a program called "Elephant." She also received the National Geographic Society's distinguished service award in 1991.

Mrs. Moomey was a native of Akron, Ohio, and a graduate of the University of Akron, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. Early in her career, she did market research for Procter & Gamble Co.

She sang with the choral society of Washington National Cathedral.

Survivors include her husband, William R. Moomey of Chevy Chase; three children, Karen M. David of Decatur, Ill., Keith W. Moomey of Camarillo, Calif., and David C. Moomey of Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

As I did the research for this page, I was absolutly amazed at what I found out about the little lady who usually sat quietly and just listened in our CACS meetings. If you have ever watched and enjoyed a National Geographic Channel (U.S.) special on television, it is likely that "Mickey" was a major participant in it's production. The message here is clear: "Listen and learn about people that you meet!" You may want to thank them while they are still living for some of the things that they have done in their lives. Following is a partial list of the National Geographic TV Specials that "Mickey" helped to produce. The music playing is the opening theme from the program.
