Cahak Family Website
This site is dedicated to the promotion of the Cahak Family

Hi my name is Joseph Loren Cahak. I go by Joe. I currently live in San Diego, Ca area in a small township NE of San Diego city called Ramona. I am son of Loren, who is son of Emil, son of Albert, son of Albert. My father Loren and his wife Dorothy are my parents.

I grew up in Northern Wisconsin in another small town called Rhinelander. It is in North Central Wisconsin about an hour drive north of Wausau.

My wife's name is Elizabeth Ellen Callord. She grew up in an even smaller town north of Rhinelander called Sugar Camp. We actually knew each other as kids, as we played with kids that lived near her Grandmother. Her aunt mentioned this to us years after we met and started going steady. Small world... We are now over 28 years together and 23 years married.

Which leads me to the purpose of this website. The purpose of this site is to promote the Cahak Family, Cahak events and give a common connection point for widely separated distances. We don't necessarily have much personally in common, but we do share a common ancestry. To my knowledge most of the Cahak's in America descend from Albert Cahak who emigrated from Bohemia in 1875, with his father Albert emigrating a year later in 1876. They settled in Neva, WI and Albert son of Albert my great grandfather sired 13 children, 8 boys and 5 girls. His 6th child and 4th son sired my father Loren Cahak. I in my turn have 2 daughters and now 2 grand daughters. I am 4th generation American, my granddaughters are 6th generation. I see deeper in the Frank-Leo-Doug side of the family. See file download below.

This website will also promote Cahak Family history, contacts and events in the hope that it helps us build and maintain our family heritage for our kids to pass on to their kids. As I have 2 daughters, my name will not carry to my next generations. That is up to others. I offer this website to help promote and carry on the knowledge of our family. In light of this, I do want the family to recognize and acknowledge the prior work my mother Dorothy Cahak. She did most all the family genealogy and family tree done to date. She took the tree backwards from us to Albert son of Albert. She also worked the Ehmann, and King and Shultz side of her and dad's branches. Lately I am working with other members to carry the tree to the branches and create a Decendancy of Albert Cahak 1st generation American to present day.

Seeing as these days I have several things web oriented that have placed me indelibly in the web search engines for the last several years, I am getting contacts from long separated family members asking if we are related? This has grown to some interesting and fun new cousins etc to relate and communicate to. The latest was Jackie, who saw my website and emailed asking if we were related. Oh course. You live in Wausau? Do you know you have a cousin who is a gal like you and lives not far from you named Jody? Well they hooked up thru me and are now friends and seeing each other regular. Again, a small world. Her mom, Marie who is married to Doug, son of Leo, son of Frank, son of Albert is now helping me work the family tree on the Wausau-Antigo side that we years ago lost contact with. They pronounce their name Cahak. They left the "K" silent. This lead to me of course asking why and where this happened. My wife Beth has cousins that rifted so bad, they not only changed the pronunciation, they changed the spelling, so I could understand this happening. We are still speculating the real story.

My father raised us as "Bohunks" as we heard it. That was slang for Bohemians. Great Great Grandfather Albert was born and raised in Trebon Czechoslovakia area. His son made the uncertain and risky move to America the land of new opportunity. His father joined him a year later. They lived in Neva, WI, which is just north on Antigo. Emil moved to Rhinelander and had Myron, Lee, Olive and Loren. Loren married Dorothy Ehmann and the oldest son (myself) and my other siblings 4 brother and 6 sisters and all our kids and now grandkids and all our cousins are the "Rhinelander" side of the clan, as I guess it could be called. There is an interesting twist to our particular clan under Emil and wife Edith (maiden name King). Mom tell's me the King is from the King of France. One of the Louis's bestowed the last name for services of a monk who sailed to early "America" and came down the Sainte Lawerance Sealane. There is a statue in Quebec I think it was to his founding the village. I'll have to get the facts again sometime from Dad.

Sorry no family crest, emblem or coat of arms. Cahak's were farmers and of poor means. How far we've come. Be interesting to see if this site stimulates the Czech side to meet and inform us of the other side of the pond. If you do a search of the Cahak name on Google or whichever search engine, you will find a "Cahak" Afghanistan. This is very interesting, especially in light of the interesting tidbit of info Dad mention about one of their several trip to Prague, Czech. Dad said he was talking to someone in Czech about the name Cahak and was told "Well that's not really Czech name." So who knows with some digging what could be discovered about our long past ancestry.

Update 05/11/2008

There was an article in National Geographic Magazine in the February 2008 issue on the Hazaras people of central Afghanistan (i.e. the Herat and Cahak areas previously mentioned). The article mentions how these people are distinct and of Mongol background from the sweeping migrations of the 1250-1300 Mongol invasions. These people may be our ancestors of ancient times. There migration to Europe could also be explained by their treatment by other Afghans as outsides and shunned. I see by Google search that there are several websites of Hazaras peoples and groups. Maybe someday we'll hear from them.

Update 04/03/2009

Met a bunch of new cousin contacts the last couple of months. It's been interesting. Glad to hear from them and interesting to see how the "Clan" is spreading around the whole and not just a continent. We are a wandering people and I salute you for being bold. No guts, no glory."

You will see at least places in Czech that have that name.

Excel files have 3 workbooks in them. Note the tree structure that is an attempt to put into 2D format of pages to represent a multidimensional structure. Note also the family info page and the date format. This an attempt to start a collection for those that care to add to the registry. No Fees or anything, just want the info and you to declare if the info can be public or not. If not the info will be in the private database and not shared. It is up to you if you care to dare to meet other Cahak's around the world now.

Prefer group photos with names and date if possible for now. I have very limited space for now.

Send me high res and I'll determine how to crop and compress to view best and my webspace size requirements. I have 10MB, so must used the space prudently to show much.

Website Notes:

Last update 04/03/2009

I have to admit I am behind on the family tree. It's been a very busy year with my going to independant contractor and working one full and one part time position. I was recently hired full time and still have the part time contract work. That, hiking and gardening developing new products for sale all keep me pretty busy these days. Don't worry if you gave me inputs. I have kept them all and am hoping to work the tree again soon. I have been meeting some interesting cousins and others that has been fun and interesting. My cousins children in particular are finding an interest with the web search engines and their curiosity.

The webmaster claims some responsibility for the content and I appreciate any corrections you may pass on to add your mark to the family tree. This web site is a first pass and has a long way to go and may contain omissions, commissions and others such transgressions, I feel the whim to add to the site. Opine me and let me know what you'd like to see, and if it's cool and/or informative bingo. You win a trip to notoriety in these her pages herein. Comprende'

Oh and the grand exalted position of "webmaster" is declared by myself as no one else has done so before.

First come, first dibs.

No Guts, No Glory
