Canaan Dogs are a local type of
Pariah Dog recently removed from the Negev Desert. The first
dogs were sent to the U.S. in the 1930s. Free ranging
dogs
continue to be collected from the desert and are being
introduced into the original lines to increase genetic
diversity. This is desirable and provides a rare opportunity
that man-made breeds do not enjoy. The continuous injection of
wild genes into American lines should help maintain the health
of the breed while increasing the Canaan Dog's wild allure.
