UCI Band History

In September, 1997, I sat down and started writing the history of the UCI Band. I have been an active member of this group since January, 1982, and I wanted to write it down before I forgot it all. Before long, this page had grown considerably, particularly when I added the photos. I also had decided to include a year by year accounting of those years in which I participated.

Right now this is work in progress. Below are hyperlinks to each year that I intend to document. This is a big job, so a number of the years may not have much (as I have not gotten to them yet). I expect that it's going to take me at least six more months to finish this.

Many of the pages have photos that I have scanned in from basketball programs. I am working on borrowing old photos from friends. I have also typed in the band rosters for those years which I have band rosters.

Click on the year or topic of interest and enjoy. If you have time, read these in order. I am writing these in order as well. Each page has links at the bottom that allow you to move forward or backward a year as well as returning to this page or the main UCI Band page.

[[8/26/98]] Previously, a lot of the early years (1982-1985) chapters had links to photos that I had stored on a UCI server.  Apparently, this server is often not functioning.  I have since moved these photos to my personal computer which is now rarely down.  Also, the transfer speeds over the cable modem are fine.

Also, for your added enjoyment, in most of the early years, I have enhanced it so that if you click on a photo, it will expand into a larger version.

[[8/27/98]] Fixed the rather messy two level frame implementation for the 1997-1998 chapter.  I have since found a better way. 

TODO LIST:

  1. I will need to add the photos for the 1986-1987 season.   I have a healthy number of these.

  2. Need to incorporate the MISC collection of scans, odds and ends, that should fit somewhere.

  1. Need to write some prose and organize the collection of notes I have taken for 1997-1998.

  2. Need to prepare a 1999-2000 chapter.  The new season is soon upon us and I am prepared to serve my 19th year.

  3. Write an overview of the history of the band in this page.  People can read more by going to the year by year accountings.  I need an overview here.
