UCI Basketball: Schedule Notations

Introduction

Below are schedules for the preseason and conference.  Click on the links for each school and conference to view scouting reports that I am maintaining for each.  These include extensive links and eventual commentary.  As time permits, I plan to back-annotate previous year's schedules.  Enjoy.

Schedule Notes

[[7/10/02]] I now have a copy of the schedule in my hand, though it is still subject to change.  UCI may get a game on ESPN so there is still a possibility for change.  The times listed above for the televised games are all pacific times.  The televised games are 90% certain as of today.

[[7/5/02]] On July 1, ESPN posted its 2002/03 preseason top 50.  Of note, Oklahoma is ranked #3 and Pepperdine is #27.  Stanford is not on the list.  They, apparently, will be rebuilding next season because two of their best players declared for the NBA and will not be returning.  There is speculation that Stanford may finish as low as ninth in the Pac-10.  Regardless, they will still be very tough competition.

[[6/22/02]] Long Beach State has posted a tentative schedule and since UCI is their travel partner, I extrapolated a schedule for us.  I do not know what additional games are being covered by KDOC, but some of the games I listed for Thursday may really be on Wednesday.

Also, from a tentative UCI Band schedule for Fall quarter, I have determined some dates of various games.  Also, that ninth game is against Pomona-Pitzer, a division III team.  During the exhibition season, it looks like we are playing at Cal State Bakersfield.  Yes, I said AT, as in an exhibition away game.  The UCI Band has that on its schedule as a performance date (along with the 12/19 Stanford game) so for band members that means road trip.

[[6/14/02]] The schedule shown above is devoid of dates and very preliminary.  However, we can make a few educated guesses as to when some of these games may occur.  UCI last played in the Sooner Classic in the 1999/00 season.  It was held during the Thanksgiving weekend on Friday and Saturday (11/26 and 11/27, 1999).  This year, we can expect the Sooner Classic games to be played on 11/29 and 11/30.  UCI will also most likely make a road trip with Stanford and St. Mary's, both in the bay area, during the week December 15, the week after finals.
