Puppies FAQ
- What guarantees do your puppies come with? -
We guarantee the general health of our puppies. All puppies
will be warrantied against hip dysplasia and hereditary eye defects.
They will be seen by a veterinary opthamologist before they leave
for their new homes.
- What Registration papers will
the puppies have? -
This litter will be registered with ASCA (Australian Shepherd
Club of America), AKC (American Kennel Club), and
the UKC
(United Kennel Club).
- Do you give the puppies shots
before they leave?
- All puppies will receive their first two shots,
and will
have been wormed several times. They will come home with a
Health
Record stating what has been done and recommendations for their future
care.
- Can I wait for a blue merle
female, with two blue eyes, and a full white collar?
- Well, possibly... However, Aussie
puppies are not
made to order. I can rub the belly, and make a wish, but
that's
as close as we can get. I certainly try to match people up
with
the color and sex that they are looking for, but an exact match is not
always possible. Sometimes, if you have a 'wish', but are
willing
to accept other variations, I can have more puppies for you to choose
from. Think of the puppies coloring as simply the suit that
he is
wearing. The brain and personality inside that suit is what
you need to be able to live with for the next 10-15 years.
- The puppies are
here! Which one will be mine?
- If you are already on the wait list for one of
these
beautiful babies, please be patient a little while longer.
Puppies need to be evaluated by their quality and
personality.
This can only be gaged as they grow and develop. I
need
to do my very best to match up each puppy to it's perfect home.
A
family that needs a household companion that will be patient with
younger children, would not match up well with a more dominant and
active puppy. Similarly, someone looking for an Agility
prospect,
probably would not enjoy the laid back couch potato of the
litter.
For now, watch all the puppies pictures and see how they grow
and
develop. Fall in love with all of them, just a little bit...
I want to be able to match you up with the most perfect
'lifetime' companion just as much as I want to place each puppy in it's
forever home.
- Do the puppies have any training before they leave?
- Actually, "Yes". We begin crate training and house
breaking before the puppies leave for their new homes. They will
have started with leash training and will have gone for a few car rides.
- Do you Aptitude Test your puppies? -
Our puppies will have aptitude tests done based on the Volhard
method when they are 7 weeks old. This helps us to gage their
temperaments and personalities, but it is merely 'one' of the tools
that we use.
- When are the puppies ready to
leave?
- We typically have our puppies ready to go to
their new
homes when they are between 8 and 10 weeks old. It varies
slightly depending on their development and the completion of their eye
exams.
- I've heard some people let
their pups go when they are 6-7 weeks old. Why do you keep
your pups for longer?
- Your puppy is only a baby once in it's life.
Interactions with it's Mother, Siblings, and even Aunts and
Uncles, will simply never come again. We strongly believe
that a
puppy needs these interactions for it's emotional growth and well
being. What the puppy learns now will shape its future.
Waiting just a couple more weeks will give you a better and
more
stable dog for the rest of it's life.
Information for potential Aussie
Owners
What
if you're only looking for a pet? Should you consider looking
at
litters that are bred for show and performance? Absolutely!
Not every puppy in a show litter will be the worlds next mega
champion, but every puppy there will be of superior health and
temperament. We breed our dogs with the utmost care to
improve
the Australian Shepherd breed.
All of our
puppies are born in the house, and receive exposure to kids, cats,
other dogs, and typical family life. We are very big on
socialization, and we want our puppies to get off to the best start
that they possibly can.
Our adult breeding dogs are
OFA'ed and
CERF'ed. We do all that we
can to ensure we have happy, healthy puppies. All puppies are
sold with full contracts and health guarantees.
