Military Forces
The Duchess of Sabine, Silvan Diisarirga has many responsibilities. The 1195th
Colonial Fleet, which is one of the numbered colonial fleets of the Deneb Sector,
is her responsibility. She is also responsible
for the administration of the Unified Army of Sabine.
The Magash System Defense Force is also under
her nominal command. Unlike most system defense fleets Magash's includes a number
of jump capable fast couriers and mercenary cruisers. Some of these forces are
under the command of local rivals from other settlements on Magash or in-system.
All have pledged to assist the Duchess in defending the system, but though the
loyalty of these forces to the Imperium is unquestionable, the reliability of
some of these groups to the Duchess is less certain.
The System Defense Force is divided into four
departments, each commanded by an officer of flag rank. The Planetary Defense
Force, Fleet Auxiliaries, Close Orbit And Aerospace Control Command (COACC)
and the System Defense Fleet.
Planetary Defense Force
The PDF mission is primarily defensive. Since the end of the FFW a number of
deep meson sites have been installed by the PDF. Combined with defensive laser
and missile batteries these form the balance of the PDF forces. These meson
sites are held by several of the planetary governments and act as much as deterrents
against other local forces as to invaders. Besides the 5233rd Profor Infantry
there are three other Imperial grade colonial regiments on Magash, all maintained
by the other Imperial Nobles resident there. The Menashiriikuu Hard Vac
Armoured Brigade, the Mikiramisi Grav Armor Regiment and the Asiranedii Heavy
Grav Troop are effective units with modern TL12 equipment. Shiranadiizugash
Cavern also maintains armored and profor infantry units, which like the Menashiriikuu
Hard Vac Armoured Brigade and Dragoons are elite units which are hired
out offworld as mercenaries. Even the most peaceful of the cavern arcologies
maintain a battalion of troops to protect what trade there is in the free zone
and to keep freebooters outside their gates.
COACC
Magash's COACC forces consist mostly of suborbital interceptors. COACC is also
responsible for the sensor systems and networking equipment that allows System
Defense to tie together the deep meson sites, missiles and laser sites belonging
to PDF, and the SDB of the Fleet into a single defensive force. Trust between
the various local forces is not high, and the effectiveness of the joint communication
network is untested.

The Magash System Defense Fleet is in charge of the squadrons of system
defense boats that provide the major defensive forces in the system.
Since 1110 the Fleet has managed to procure a number of more modern
system defense boats (SDB's) from the Imperial Navy. The crown jewels
of the fleet are a squadron of 800 dton Strauss Class System Defense
Boats. These (G)TL 12 vessels have served with distinction in the IN.
The Strauss SDB's are under the direct command of the Duchess and serve
to remind the locals that She has the authority and responsibility
of enforcing Imperial Law in the system, a prospect that makes her rivals
both cautious and circumspect.
Other Magash governments field Nova Roar and Irbak class System Defense
Boats, as well as the new Wyrm class. The number of governments and
their mistrust of each other makes the system relatively well patrolled.

Fleet Auxiliaries
Also in the fleet are the Broadswords and Kalashnikov Mercenary Cruisers of
Magash Maximus Corporation, which are considered auxiliary vessels. The Magash
governments also each possess several jump capable fast couriers, which are
counted among the fleet auxiliaries, as well as a few private yachts which could
be pressed into service in great need.
The Huscarle of House Diisarirga consists of three regiments. The first regiment
is the 5233rd Profor Infantry Regiment, the Duchess's Own Magash Dragoons. This
force has served in both the Fourth and Fifth Frontier Wars. It is part of the
Imperial Magash Army normally in service with the Unified Armies of the Imperium
and is often off world on the Emperor's business.
The second regiment of the Huscarle of House Diisarirga is typically called
the Duchess's Home Guard and is responsible for security in Diisarirga Caverns
and elsewhere in the system, such as at the Starport. The Home Guard also runs
what custom service there is, as well as Diisarirga's deep meson sites and the
system defense boats belonging to Diisarirga.
The final regiment of the Huscarle is the mercenary company typically known
as Silvan's Troopers. It consists of a number of units which are deployed with
their Broadswords and Kalashnikov Mercenary Cruisers.
