The Magash Project

Project Index

The Magash Project started out with Silvan's Troopers. I wanted to create an elite mercenary unit. I decided I wanted a TL12 profor (protected force) unit that was part of a larger organization.

It wasn't long before I decided that they needed a noble patron, to help them get those lucrative Imperial contracts. High value contracts would be necessary, because I intended to outfit the Troopers with the best. Even so, I suspected that they would not be a profit making operation. That meant a sponsor with lots of credits, to whom the Troopers were a prized status symbol.

I needed a noble who could afford the cost of such an expensive hobby. The noble's home world had to be at TL12. I wanted a vac world, to match the profor status of the troopers. The world needed be a major population center, with a Class A (GT VI) starport. Finally, it needed to be a world that had not already described in canon, because I wanted a free hand without having to contradict published material.

I found Magash, a high population world in the Sabine subsector of Deneb.

So started the Magash Project.

This site is built on two levels. At the top level it contains information on Magash, its people, society and government. It also illustrates the mercenary outfit, Silvan's Troopers. This information is provided for GMs to use in their own Traveller games. Spread throuout these pages are gems hidden behind "advertising" banners. These banners link to pages of information that can be introduced into games set in the Sabine sector and beyond.

Beneath the Magash content pages are design pages, which can be accessed by clicking the Imperial Sun icon. On these design pages, I will attempt to explain the why and wherefore of the game design decisions I have made in creating this material. The purpose of these pages is to document how I did it, and to provide a guide to others who desire to create their own material. Some of this material contains my opinions on game design, Traveller, and specific RPG products. These opinions are entirely my own and are not related to Steve Jackson Games, Far Future Games or any other company.

Recently added to the site is information from a non-canon Traveller game that I've developed. It harkens back to the Little Black Books (LLB) of Travellers earlier era, before the material for the Imperium was created. It uses many items from the Traveller Universe, but is built on GURPS Space.
