Scout Service

The Scout service maintains a Waystation at Magash. A Scout Waystation is a major facility. The Service maintains just one Waystation per subsector. It has the facilities to repair, overhaul and refit express boats, as well as provide support to active duty and detached duty Scout/Couriers. Like all such facilities Magah's Waystation can be converted to a Class I Naval Station during wartime, and indeed it served in this capacity during the recent war.

There are many different designs of the classic Type S in service. MS&S was the subsector's original subcontractor of the beloved Sulieman Scout Courier. Problems with the air system plagued this particular design and MS&S went to its partners at GSbAG's office of celestime architecture to find a solution. Their answer was a revised Scout Courier design which was approved by the IISS during the mid 1000s. The IISS contracted for a large number of these new ships to assist in completion of the Second Survey. As is common, the Imperium purchased full rights to the design and so several shipyards throughout the Domain are producing this variant of the Type S.

The first ship of this design was commissioned on 255-1055 and named after one of the premier explorers of the First Survey, Scout Michael Sheridan, so ships of this design are known as Sheridan-Class Scout Couriers. Several variants of this design are produced, including a version intended for intelligence gathering and long distance communication monitoring. Some original run ships, now just over 60 years old, are beginning to find their way into the hands of detached duty scouts, who prefer their extra room and efficient life support systems.

This version of the Type S Scout is highly regarded by the service. Its higher tech level gives it an edge in performance over its TL10 predecessor and it has seen service with the Exploration Branch as auxiliary craft aboard Dur Telemon Class Scout Cruisers, in package transport with the Imperial Courier Service, and in its Intell variant, with the External Mapping Branch.
