Magash is a Balkanized world in the Sabine Subsector. Diisarirga is one of the largest cavern complexes on Magash. The world's overall Tech Level is TL12. Ruled by the prosperous Diisarirga Clan, whose leader is the Duchess Silvan, Diisarirga Caverns is typical of the large underground arcologies of Magash.
Slidewalks are everywhere in Diisarirga. Vehicles on Magash typically use contra-grav technology and are principally used only outside the archologies. Computer guided taxi's and limo's are the exception. These levitating vehicles travel through transport tunnels connecting different parts of the caverns. Goods and people move from one arcology area to another in Diisarirga via mag-lev subways. Personal contragrav belts are readily available, but it is considered ill mannered to use them within the arcology (except by official personnel and support workers).
The rich and noble classes live in large computerized suites. The middle class live in condo/multilevel apartments in the arcology. Transients and lower class residents live in small single or multiroom warrens rented month by month. Even these quarters have central landlord computers. Many of these workers are employed in the service industry or sector government service in low level jobs.
Robofacs and Minifacs are quite common. Free moving nanotechnology is not. Robofacs are used for mass production. Minifacs are used for manufacture of high tech items of TL10 and below in small quantities. Some TL 11 and 12 level items may be producible.
Computers are generally available. These include PC's, Minicomputers, Microframes, Mainframes and Megacomputers. Imperium computers are never constructed to be sentient. Robots in working and servant roles are quite common. Most domestic robots are really remotes that are controlled by house computers. Domestic robots are limited to the wealthy. Maintenance and public utility robots are controlled by mainframes.
Communication is via a large vidcom network. Portable short range vidcom units are linked to this network by secure encrypted radio. In areas outside the arcology long range vidcoms or private relay towers are necessary to link to satellite comsats.
Arcologies are generally thought of as being a city in a single structure. Magash arcologies are just that, but the building is an airtight underground structure. Just as many city dwellers on forest planets never venture beyond their metropolis, many natives of Magash never step outside the pressurized and gravitied environment of the arcologies. The typical Diisarirga cavern citizen thinks no more of the vacuumed desert of the surface than a citizen of a typical open air city thinks of the possible death that would await them without centralized water, sewage, food and power. Most Diisarirga Caverns citizens never see the surface. Training in the use of survival balls is given to every child, but few take much notice of the outside. No Magash habitat has experienced an environmental breach in living memory.
Diisarirga Caverns import approximately 100,000 dtons of preserved food every week. 67,000 dtons of fresh imported food is also consumed by the citizens of the caverns. This is supplemented with 67,000 dtons a week of fresh food grown locally. Members of the working classes also consume 135,000 dtons of mycoprotein and fauxflesh produced in Diisarirga's food factories.
Diisarirga has it's own spaceport serving mostly private vessels, clan commercial vessels and transworld ballistic transport services. A small satellite office of the Traveller's Aid Society is there. Magash Shipbuilding and Spacedock Company has offices at the spaceport, as well as a few corporate hangers. A high security area is set aside for smallcraft belonging to Magash Maximus Corporation.
Like many of the Magash polotics, Diisarirga is a Feudal Techocracy. It is run by the Diisarirga family as a more or less private fiefdom. Order is kept by the huscarles of house Diisarirga. Weapons, with the exception of snub pistols and shotguns are generally prohibited to anyone not in the guard. Members of the mercenary arm of Magash Maximus, commonly known as Silvan's Troopers, are considered part of the Duchess's Own Dragoons and are given considerable leeway in the possession of weapons while off duty. This is typically limited to the carrying of uniform swords/cutlasses and sidearms. As members of the huscarles they are also expected to help maintain order and obey the orders of the Duchess's Home Guard tasked with maintaining order within the caverns.
