I am finishing my first semester at
Tidewater Community College or at any college for that matter. Before I
enrolled, I spent a long time trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life
and which field of study I wanted to pursue. After a few years of debating back
and forth amongst myself, I decided that accounting was the path for me.
However, recent developments and conversations with some of my instructors have
made me question if this is truly what I want to do. I don’t want to waste my
time or money so instead of taking any specific career courses I am going to
continue my general education and elective courses this summer.
If I do change my major from accounting it will be to engineering. I know that this is a drastic change from my original plan, but to be honest I have been interested in engineering for a long time. I love to be the problem solver and I love to figure out new ways to accomplish everyday tasks. However I am going to do a little research before I make my decision.
Whatever I decide to study or major in
I do know that I will graduate with a GPA of at least a 3.5 or higher and go on
to a four year university to pursue my bachelor’s. I just don’t know which
university I want to transfer to yet, that will depend on which career field I
enter.
I guess you could say that when I
started college I knew what I wanted to do but over the last few months my eyes
have been opened to new possibilities. I am ok with that because after all
college is not only about learning skills for the outside world but also
learning about yourself, and I am doing just that.
