GROSSMONT HIGH SCHOOL

NICOLE A. THREN

Semester Two Final Portfolio

The purpose of this portfolio is to provide each student with a career binder that will contain all materials necessary to move forward from high school. This portfolio will be yours to use whenever or wherever you need a snapshot and examples of your credentials. It does need to be kept in a place where you can access it easily, adding to or refining the information as necessary.

The portfolio will contain two required sections: the formal documents and the personal/employability skills documents.

Formal Documents:

Portfolio cover
Resume
Reference page
Cover letter
Follow-up letter
Letter requesting a letter of recommendation
Letter of recommendation
Sample job application

Personal/Employability skills documents:

Academic skills - documents that show success, competency, or aptitude in a school-related class, assignment, or activity.

Personal management skills - documents that illustrate your ability to organize your time effectively and efficiently. This section is also where you can showcase your participation in school activities, community service, youth groups, hobbies, and clubs.

Teamwork skills - documents showing your ability to work, cooperate, and communicate with others. This section does not necessarily have a connection with sports activities or athletic competition.

Reflective notation:

Your personal/employability skills section will include concise, reflective notations for each piece explaining why the document, picture, certficiate, etc., is included and what specific skills the document addresses. For example, if you include a team sports picture, don't just put "I played soccer". Tell more about the skills you gained and how the experience has helped you. These reflective notations will be placed in textboxes and inserted with the document or typed in Microsoft Word and placed on a separate page opposite the item the notation addresses. Although the merit of your document may be clear to you, it may not be obvious to the person reviewing the portfolio. Be sure to use complete sentences that contain correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and capitalization.

Part one and part two are only a partial list. You will be adding to your career portfolio as you progress through the entire career planning process. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance from parents, teachers, or others in deciding what needs to be included in your portfolio.
