| Edward was born on 16 January 1885 in Easington, County Durham, of George Graham and Jane Robson. He was seventeen, in 1902, when he emigrated to America, where he worked as a coal miner in Zeigler, Illinois. He met a girl, who had also come over from England, named Esther Tipling. They were married 27 December 1909. Edward and Esther became U.S. citizens on 12 September 1919. In the spring of 1920, Edward returned alone to England for a visit, possibly associated with the death of his brother William on 15 January 1920. He returned to America from Liverpool on 18 June, on the SS Haverford, of the American Line, arriving at Philadelphia on 5 July 1920. They moved to West City (just outside of Benton), Illinois. Edward died at age 79, on 28 March 1964, in the Miner's Hospital, in St. Christopher, Illinois. Hettie died 30 April 1969.
