Wellington, Ohio - 2006
The Ohio Scottish Games, though a little soggy this year, still
had a very good turn out. Flooding, foul weather and power outages on the
Thursday before the games at Wellington kept many from attending, but those
who braved the results of the weather had a wonderful time. But weather was
not the reason our tent manager, Bob Fisher was not in attendance this year.
He unfortunately was called away by his employment to Japan this year. The
tent was not the same without Bobby there. But Bob promises to be back in
full regalia next year!
With the Lorain County Fairgrounds so wet from the rains, the clan
tents were moved from their usual grassy area into the dairy barn this year.
Although it was a great help to the Clans in setting up and not ending up in
mud, many people who expected us to be set up in the open field like always
did not realize where we were located. As a result, the clan tents were not
well visited. In spite of the lack of visitors to the tent area, many of
the various clan tent managers were talking to the officials of the games
asking them to have them in the barn permanently. It was much cooler there.
There was no fear of having our tents blown away, and as many who do not
wish to bring certain items to the tents for fear of damage from rain and
wind (which has happened in the past), it gave us an opportunity to bring
special items without fear of being ruined by the elements. Better
advertising of our location next year should bring the people around again.
In spite of the turnout being down, it was a BANNER YEAR for the
Clan Campbell Society, N.A. Tiffany Rozenas, a beautiful young lady, inside
and out, traveled all the way from Massachusetts to compete in the National
Fiddle Championship at the Ohio Scottish Games this year. As she runs track
for her high school at home in Rochester, her mother had contacted me the
previous month before the games in hopes that Clan Campbell would sponsor
Tiffany for the "Kilted Mile". I told her that Clan Campbell would be proud
to sponsor her but only if Tiffany would grace our tent and play her fiddle
for us after the competition.
While she did not place in the National Fiddle Championship (and
her competition must have been beyond compare because she played
beautifully), SHE WON THE KILTED MILE! She received a plaque for placing
first. For being her sponsor, Clan Campbell Society receives a free tent
space at the 2007 Ohio Scottish Games!
And, being true to her word, Tiffany came to the Campbell tent and
played a fiddle set for all the clans to hear much to their surprise and
delight. As a gift to Tiffany for winning the kilted mile and playing for
us with such talent, the members of the Clan Campbell tent are paying for
Tiffany's membership to the Clan Campbell Society for the year.
Congratulations Tiffany! Way to go!
We would also like to welcome new members Delayne and Rick Geesey
and their children: Bryan, Robert and Marie Taylor (pictured are Delayne,
Rick and Robert). Delayne and Rick are newly married and had a Scottish
wedding to boot this last fall! The Geesey's home is in Fremont, Ohio.
Also, we would like to give a warm welcome to Dr. Carol Linsenmeier, our newest helper in the tent for the
2007 Ohio Scottish Games. Carol has been attending the games for sometime
now and has volunteered to help in the tent. Thank you Carol as help is
always appreciated.

And last but not least, as we and Clan Armstrong were both short handed in the tent this year, we would like say big
thank you to them for their assistance in giving Dan and me a short break to
get a bite to eat and see a little of the games. We had things to buy for
our son's wedding this October and, of course, it's a Scottish wedding!
Hope to see you all at the 30th Annual Ohio Scottish Games next year, June
23rd!
