This guide for all
of you that would like to join the Rhino & COA channels to get extra
help, or just have a place to hang when your not playing the game. The first step is to
download an IRC client. By far the best one is mIRC. Since I'm going step by step with mIRC, go
download it over at http://www.mirc.com/.
Click the below link to begin downloading mIRC. After that's done
downloading, run the file (mirc601.exe) to begin Installation. It's pretty
straight forward, right after you run it you'll be asked to push 'Next'. Then
you have to agree to some legal jargon, just hit 'yes'. Now on the next
screen you can change the installation directory and other things, but since
this is the first time, don't bother with anything, just click on 'Install'.
It will start copying files and create your shortcuts. When it's done click
'Finish'. Now, click on Start,
Programs, mIRC, and mIRC again to launch the program. This is what you'll see
first.
This will appear
every time you start mIRC, pretty annoying. So to make it stop, just uncheck that
box in the bottom left corner. Now to make this thing disappear, just click
anywhere on it, except any of the buttons.
This is what will
come up next. First put something for full name. Anything will do, but you
can't leave it blank. Then email address, again anything, just not blank. Now
for your nickname, of course use your AC name, but your name must start with
a letter, and it cannot contain spaces. Use a _ for a space if you must.
Alternative nickname you shouldn't really worry about. Then, fill in all the
blanks. Do not push 'OK' yet. We have a few more things to do. What you have
to do now, is click that button in the top right corner, it says 'Add'.
In the Description
box, it doesn’t really matter what
you put, but put something like 'Stratics IRC'. In the next box, the IRC
Server box, type in 'irc.stratics.com' without the quotes. That's all, click
the 'Add' button now. You’re back to this screen.
Nothing left to do
here, push the 'Connect to IRC Server' button.
In the very top box,
where you can type, type in '#rhinos' without the quotes, the password is in
our private forum. Then push the 'Join' button. Welcome to the Rhino chat
channel. To add additional
channels, COA for instance, In the
very top box, where you can type, type in '#coa' without the quotes. Then
push the 'Join' button. If you need help,
let me know, I’m learning myself but we can work it out. Acknowledgements: Many thanks to the COA for the help and use of their mIRC guide, as well as DooMGazE, who unknowingly provided additional help from the Blood site. |
