C.E.A.'s elementary program may be described as "traditional." Our goal with this age group is to provide a solid foundation for future learning. Core subjects are covered and students are expected to learn a significant amount of factual material which will serve them well as they mature and move into higher level thinking applications.
While some educators may scoff at such "rote" methods as memorization of basic facts, we believe that such training pays off in the long run. Young children are particularly adept at "filing" large amounts of data through such "mental exercise" as memorization. Our students are asked to memorize Bible verses, classic poems, and American history documents. Most students feel a sense of satisfaction when they successfully master such assignments, and we believe such work helps pave the way for higher level thinking skills.
As our elementary teachers work with our students, they use excellent text books and quality literature, as well as age-appropriate games and hands-on activities, to enhance learning. Children enjoy learning through their senses. Demonstrations, experiments, projects, and field trips all help provide an enjoyable and meaningful experience for our students.
As important as the academic growth of our students is to our parents and teachers, we desire above all else to help promote the spiritual growth and development of our students. Teachers strive to remain sensitive to character issues and to be alert to opportunities and "teachable moments" to promote spiritual growth.
