Gilbert, Arizona - One of America's fastest growing cities in the nation - Once a sleepy little farm community, it is now one of Maricopa's countys fastest growing communities since the late 1990's.
For this years event, we will donate all money raised, to the Child Crisis Center East Valley.
Founded in 1981 by Mahnah Club, Inc of Mesa, AZ, the Child Crisis Center has extended a helping hand to children and families in need. Committed to preventing child abuse and neglect, our shelter and programs have provided aid and comfort to over 10,000 children.
Our staff and volunteers work together to create an atmosphere of security, acceptance and encouragement - where children have a chance to heal from trauma, build their self esteem, and have the experiences of just being a kid.
At the Child Crisis Center we try to create as normal a life as possible by enrolling children in local schools, sporting activities, art and reading activities. The Crisis Center provides a daily routine, as well as extensive counseling, psychological services and medical care.
Ever since it opened its doors in 1981, the center has provided temporary shelter for children up to the age of 12, who are the victims of abuse or neglect. Many children arrive through Child Protective Services, in a police car or with moms and dads who seek intervention during a domestic crisis of their own, said Jackie Bink, community relations director.
"The department of economic security funds about 65 percent of our budget, but we rely on grants and community dollars to pick up the slack, otherwise we'd never make budget," she said.
More than 10,000 children, some as young as a day old, have come through the Crisis Center's doors, Bink estimates, and each of her 42 beds is almost always full.
