Disaster Relief Building Dedication

A special event was held (on May 1, 2003) during the Senior Adult Conference at Crosswind Conference Center (Hesston, KS). It was the dedication service for the building that houses the ABMen's Disaster Relief trucks and trailers. Disaster Relief Coordinator Larry Oyer presided over the dedication service, assisted by ABMen President David Edwards and Assistant Disaster Coordinator Gary Holloway. Immediate past President of ABMen and driver of the tractor/trailer rig, Gordon Goering, and official cook for the disaster teams, Stan Shore, were also present for the service. More than 70 people from the conference attended the dedication.

John Degard, Red Cross representative from Salina, KS spoke about the great help that is given by the men following disasters. Executive Minister Dr. Fred Ansell gave the dedication prayer.

The men have worked long and hard to provide a safe shelter for the disaster relief vehicles and equipment. They are looking for more volunteers, male and female, for when the call comes for workers to clean up and do repair work following tornadoes and other disasters.

The American Baptist Churches of the Central Region expresses deepest appreciation for the work of ABMen, and encourages every church to keep praying for them and their mission work across the entire region.
