Artist's Statement/A Gesture
My paintings are about hope.
They are about the need to share, the yearning to be understood,
the search for similarities.
As the Votive Milagro, a small silver charm, is placed upon the altar
with a prayer requesting a miracle to cure an ailing body,
the body parts I hang are for the human spirit.
Images melt into distressed surfaces indicating the spirit
passing through time and the hardship it endures.
The image of the ear is a representation of God.
We do not know what he looks like, but we know that he listens.
