USS CAMANGA (AG-42)

Built as the Point Bonita in 1918 and later known as the Oliver Olson, The USS Camanga (AG-42) was commissioned on April 26, 1942.  Classified as a Miscellaneous Auxiliary, the Camanga carried cargo and fuel drums to support fleet operations throught the Pacific.

From 1942 to 1946, the Camanga duties started in Pearl Harbor in June of 1942 and continued in Pago Pago Samoa, the Samoan and Ellice Islands, San Francisco,  Noumea, Guadalcanal, the  islands of the Bismarck Archipelago, Auckland, New Zealand, and New Caledonia.

The Camanga was decommissioned in San Francisco on December 10, 1946.

My father, Petty Officer 2nd Class Chandler Paris is still alive and served on the Camanga in 1943 during World War II.
