MANIA FAQ v2 5/20/02
This is the Mania
FAQ. If you do not have a question relating only to a Mania card or Superstar
then you are in the wrong FAQ. You should also read the General
FAQ first for basic and general information.
With the release of Mania, you may now have up to 8 Pre-match and 8 Mid-Match
cards in your Backlash deck. Also, you may now have up to 4 of each in your Ring
area at one time. (A couple of places in the rulebook states the old Backlash
configuration).
SUPERSTARS:
Rob Van Dam
You can discard a Strike to play a High Risk at reduced fortitude and vice versa.
You cannot discard Chair Shot to both his ability and to the Van Daminator. (you do not get a -10F to play the Van Daminator)
Discarding a card to reduce the Fortitude Value of another card can trigger such cards as Brahma Bull.
Lita
You can search for any card with “drop kick” in the title and this includes Lita's Drop Kick, but does not include Fully Loaded's Missile Dropkick (since "dropkick" in this case is one word, not two).
Only the card Drop Kick can be played for 0F using her ability.
Big Show's Superstar ability regarding High Risk maneuvers should read: Big Show may not have High Risk cards in his Arsenal or Backlash deck (this include High Risk hybrids).
You must discard two cards anytime you play a maneuver after you have played the first one in the same turn. So the first maneuver, there is no penalty. If you want to play another one you must discard 2 cards. If you wan to play a third, you must discard 2 cards, etc… Note: using a Trash Can is the same as playing it and so he must discard 2 cards if it is not the first maneuver.
While he cannot play High Risk maneuvers, he can play High Risk hybrids and use them as reversals and actions. (For example he may play the Flying Reverse Elbow as an Action.)
Since Big Show’s ability reduces Grapples to a maximum of 3D, you can use cards like Elbow To The Face, Clumsy Opponent etc. to reverse them.
Opponents may play Grapples that do more than 3D on Big Show; the damage will just be reduced to 3D - which will affect the playing of certain High Risk cards.
If Big Show takes damage from the Reversal part of a hybrid Grapple/Reversal,
the damage is not maxed to 3. Also, a Rolling Takedown against a Grapple
played by Big Show will not max out at 3 since it’s a Reversal doing the
damage.
Their Superstar Ability regarding
Actions should read like this: APA
cannot have Action cards (including hybrids) in their Arsenal.
Note: this means they can have it in their Backlash deck.
WILLIAM REGAL
His ability to search for certain cards, especially the FACE and HEEL cards does NOT allow you to build an illegal Arsenal. The ability just allows you a wider range of searching depending on whether you build him FACE or HEEL.
CARDS and RULES:
Q: Can I remove a stipulation?
A: No. This is stated in the rulebook. The only exception currently is that Duchess
Of Queensbury can remove a Hell In A Cell Match.
Q: If I don’t play a
stipulation, can I still play 4 Pre-match cards?
A: Yes.
Q: How many Stips can I play?
A: Each player may play only one per match and it must be the first card played.
Q: Are Stips cumulative? If I
play an INDIAN STRAP MATCH and so does my opponent, will we have to discard 2
cards to play any non-Set-Up actions?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I OLD SCHOOL a
stipulation?
A: No, because in the Stip phase, you can only play a Stip. Once each player has
had a chance to play one, then you can only play normal Pre-match cards.
Q: Does Hell In A Cell Match prevent the usage of Undertaker’s
ability?
A: No. The card affects cards
Q: Can Two-Man Power Trip benefit from a Hell In A Cell Match?
A: Yes, since Triple H’s foils are not affected.
Q: Can Hell In A Cell Match stop you from getting a card from a Givin'
'Em High Fives?
A: Yes. Though you’d still have to overturn 5 cards if for some reason you
still decided to play the card.
Q: Can you explain how to use the Duchess Of Queensbury Rules in
regards to the Count Out clause?
A: Ok, a Count Out happens at the end of any turn in which someone does not have
cards in their Arsenal. So, if you have no cards at the end of ANY turn, and you
are about to be Counted Out, you can place the card in the Ringside pile and
shuffle any 8 cards into your Arsenal so that you won't get Counted Out.
Q: For TLC Match - do you have to leave room for Table, Ladder
and Chair, and in your Backlash deck, or can they just be added in?
In other words, if you already have your 16, can you put a Ladder in
there? Or would you have to have only SEVEN Mid-Match to leave room for
the Ladder?
A: You do not need to leave room. They get added to the deck and do not count
towards the total.
Q: Is playing and
overturning the same thing for Censorship Match?
A: No. The definition of "playing a card" has changed. See the General
FAQ. Note: this overturns
a previous FAQ ruling.
Q: With Censorship Match can you name a card with the Restricted
Modification Symbol?
A: Yes. See the
Q: Can you stop a Pre-match card
being used as a Mid-match effect with Censorship Match?
A: No. This overturns a previous FAQ ruling.
Q: In a Four Corners Match with Not Done With Any Flair in the
Ring, if I play my last Touch Turnbuckle, can my opponent stop me from
winning in this case?
A: No, because the Touch Turnbuckle cards do not specify a Victory
Condition: it’s the Four Corners Match that does. So Not Done
cannot trigger.
Q: If you play the card titled Money Talks, BS Walks and the next card
you play is your Trademark Finisher, can it still be reversed by When You
Thought You Had All The Answers... (WYTYHATA)?
A: No. The text on Money Talks prevents the playing of a card from your
Backlash deck and not really causing the Finisher to be irreversible.
Q: Does the Pre-match stipulation Not Done With Any Flair work only
once, or as many times as opponent tries to win by a victory condition?
A: As many times.
Q: Can you play Here Comes The Money to reverse something like Brothers
'Til The End?
A: Much like Where Are Your Medals, you CANNOT reverse a Reversal unless
it specifically says so on the card.
Q: If you play X-Treme Measures and your opponent Over Sells
the maneuver that follows what happens? Can you even Over Sell it?
A: Yes you can Over Sell the maneuver and since your opponent’s turn
ends without fulfilling the playing of a High Risk, he must discard his hand.
Q: If you have Torrie Wilson, On It! in play, and your opponent is
Angle with Intelligence in play, can you put you whole hand under Torrie
all in one go, because your hand is constantly being shown, or only once per
turn?
A: Neither. You may put one card under Torrie when Intelligence
first resolves. Since it is a continuous effect it does not trigger Torrie’s
text.
Q: How does Torrie
interact with Billy Gunn's Superstar ability?
A: Showing
your hand is a mandatory cost of Gunn’s ability and therefore Torrie
is activated. This is a reversal of a previous ruling.
Q: If I discard a Welllllllllll!!!
on my first turn then play a Pump Kick, will I get the benefit of the Pump
Kick?
A: Yes. Since the definition of "playing a card" has changed, using Wellllllllllll
does not constitute playing a card thus triggering Pump Kick's effect.
Q: Can you play V.K.M's Patented Big Gulp as a Reversal when you have
no cards in your hand?
A: Yes. You will “discard” your hand, though there is nothing there.
Q: How does V.K.M's Patented Big Gulp and Signed Contract From
Linda McMahon interact?
A: Your opponent has to discard enough cards to equal the number of cards in his
hand. So if you have 5 cards in hand, and your opponent 7, he will have to
discard 2 to equal your 5. You do NOT discard cards equal to the number of cards
in hand.
Q: Can you play Sustained Damage if you reverse from your Backlash
deck?
A: No. While the card may suggest this, we are ruling that you cannot respond to
an effect with two reversals.
Q: Can I use Sustained Damage to lower the damage a maneuver is doing
from say, 8D to 6D, then reverse it with an Elbow from the hand?
A: No! However, if you OVERTURN an Elbow, it will reverse it. Note that Sustained
Damage only works once you decide to let a card be successful and do damage
to you. You then discard to lower the damage before overturning.
Q: If I use Sustained Damage to reduce a card from 7D to 3D, can my
opponent follow up with a High Risk maneuver that requires a 5D or greater
maneuver?
A: No, because the damage was reduced to 3D.
Q: Can you use Sustained Damage on irreversible cards?
A: Yes. It does not reverse. Note: it does get affected by fortitude modifiers
to reversals, but not while in play.
Q: Can you use Sustained
Damage on a card with the Restricted Modification Symbol?
A: No. See the RMS
Document elsewhere for
more detail.
Q: If Triple H had Cerebral Assassin in play, then discards his hand
to power up an Half Hour Suplex, would Big Show take the full damage or
only 3D?
A: Full damage. Cerebral would trigger before damage is finished
modifying. By then, Big Show’s ability is blank.
Q: Is Cerebral Assassin’s effect continuous?
A: Yes. As soon as you have 4 or less cards in your hand, your opponent’s
Superstar ability is blank. As soon as you have more than 4, the ability comes
back.
Q: If I have 3 cards in my hand and 2 under Keibler's Cookies, will Cerebral
Assassin trigger?
A: Yes, since the cards under Keibler do not count toward your hand size.
Q: Can I play Fortitude Surge in response to an Undertaker Sits Up
or Kane's Return or other reversal that modifies fortitude?
A: No. You cannot reverse a reversal unless it specifically says so on the card.
Q: Can I use Cuz Stone Cold Said So to play Mania to ignore the
Fortitude Value?
A: No. You cannot disregard any value on a card with the Restricted Modification
Symbol. See the writeup for the RMS
in a separate document.
Q: Do I put the 2 cards under Keibler only when I first play it?
A: No, you can place up to 2 cards while it is in the Ring. It cannot hold more
than 2 cards though.
Q: If I have cards underneath Keibler's Cookies and I have to discard
my hand, do I discard the cards underneath too?
A: No, they are only considered PLAYED from the hand, not part of your hand.
(Meaning you have to meet the rules for playing such cards as if they were in
your hand.)
Q: So can I play a reversal from under Keibler if it says it cannot be
reversed from the hand?
A: No, because any card played in this manner is considered played from the
hand.
Q: When playing Judgment Day, especially as Angle, is it the total
number of Face and Heel or choose one?
A: You choose either Face or Heel.
Q: How does Trailer Park Trash interact with Kissing Up To The
Stinkin' Fans?
A: Trailer removes the word “face” in Kissing to have the
first sentence read as such: Reverse any Action card if it is
the second Action played this turn OR if opponent has five or more cards in his
Ring area.
Q: Can you play Little She Devil in a Two-Man Power Trip deck while
playing in a single match?
A: Yes. Normally, you can only play TAG cards while playing in a tag match.
However, this card states it allows you to play it if your Superstar says it can
only play tag team title belts. And this can happen whether in a tag match or
standard one-on-one match. Same goes for cards like Stackplex and other
cards with similar wording.
Q: Can APA play Little She Devil?
A: No, since APA’s Superstar ability overrides the card: they can’t have
Actions in their deck and this is an Action card.
Q: If I play an Ayatollah Of Rock‘N Roll-A then later in the turn I
play and win the Test Of Strength, what happens?
A: Your opponent can still be able to overturn an applicable reversal. See
the writeup on the
Q: Can Spike Dudley play Test Of Strength?
A: Yes. Even though there is no printed number on the card, it’s not 4 or
greater so he can play it.
Q: If my opponent plays Test Of Strength, can I overturn a reversal to
stop the damage?
A: Yes.
Q: What if my opponent plays Test Of Strength and he LOSES! Can he
overturn a Reversal to stop the damage?
A: No. You can’t play a reversal on your turn unless it specifically says so.
Q: Do you have to discard cards when you overturn a Psychotic Bump?
A: No. It is not a requirement to reverse the cards listed so you can ignore
that effect.
Q: Can I play a Remove Corner Turnbuckle if my opponent does not have
any cards with the words “touch turnbuckle” in the Ring?
A: Yes.
Q: What can I retrieve with a Billion Dollar Princess?
A: You can only get foil Superstar specific cards, like I Am The Game, Tree
Of Woe, etc. (Note premium foils like Puppies! Puppies! cannot be
retrieved as they are Superstar specific foils. You also cannot retrieve
Superstar specific cards that are not foils like B.A.’s Military Press Slam,
From The Bowery, etc. Note: non-foil promo card versions of Superstar
specific foils, like The People's Elbow, and Crippler Crossface
are retrievable with Billion Dollar Princess.
Q: Can Totally Bogus reverse Beer, Cards, And More Beer?
A: Yes, since Beer potentially allows you to draw more than 1 card.
Q: Can Crimson Goddess and
Spinnerooni reverse irreversible maneuvers like Over Sell?
A: No. While the cards have the same "blanking" effect as Over Sell,
the first sentence reads like other reversals, not like Over Sell.
Q: Does one Slandered Online
get rid of all copies of Fans Love An Underdog?
A: No.
Q: If I am Edge & Christian
and I play VKM as a reversal what happens?
A: You will get to draw the amount of cards you would have discarded.
