RAW DEAL FAQ v2 5/20/02

This is the Raw Deal FAQ. If you do not have a question relating only to a Raw Deal card or Superstar then you are in the wrong FAQ. You should also read the General FAQ first for basic and general information.

SUPERSTARS:

  Rock

Rock's ability happens before the Draw Segment.

Rock can choose any card from his Ringside to return to the bottom of the deck.

Rock can be Counted Out like any other Superstar. His ability works at the start of the turn, therefore he does not have time to use his ability to save himself from a Count Out.

  Mankind

Mankind's ability are mandatory and cannot be "switched" off.

Mankind draws 2 cards during his Draw Segment.

Non-damage effects like Kane's Superstar ability and Inferno Match, etc., are NOT reduced (however the initial damage Inferno Match does when played will be reduced to 0).

If Mankind is hit with a Punch and he reverses it with a Knee To The Gut, the opponent will take 2D.

Mankind can use Elbow To The Face to reverse moves like Bulldog or anything else that will do 8D, since he will only take 7D.

 Chris Jericho

When Jericho uses his ability, he chooses which card to discard; the opponent also chooses which card to discard.

MULTIPLAYER: Jericho's ability only affects one opponent.

  Kane
Kane's effect happens before his Draw Segment.

MULTIPLAYER: Kane affects all opponents.

  Undertaker

Undertaker must discard two cards in order to activate his ability.

Undertaker chooses any card from the Ringside to return.

Undertaker may play a maneuver, return a card, and use a High Risk maneuver, after meeting the High Risk requirement (i.e. Superstar abilities do not break the chain of effects).

 "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

His ability can be used anytime during his turn, but not before the Draw Segment.

ACTIONS:

Q: The wording on Spit At Opponent on the Survivor Series version is different than the original version. Which takes precedence?
A: The Survivor Series one. Accordingly, you MUST be able to discard a card after playing Spit in order to legally play the card. In other words, if Spit is the only card in your hand, you cannot play it.

Q: How does Ego Boost interact with Bulldog?
A: You cannot discard Ego Boost to get 2 cards when a Bulldog is played. The player who played the Bulldog can choose which card you must discard. If he chooses an Ego Boost, it triggers and then you get your 2 cards. If the player does not choose the Ego Boost, you can do nothing about it.

Q: If I have to discard more than one card, can I use Ego Boost as one of those cards to draw 2? And if so, do any of those have to be discarded?
A: You can use Ego Boost as one of the cards to discard if more than one has to be discarded and the 2 new cards won't be affected by the discarding effect. For example: if you have 5 cards in your hand, with an Ego Boost among them, and Mankind hits you with Have A Nice Day which forces you to discard your hand, then you discard all 5 cards. Ego Boost would then trigger, allowing you to draw 2 cards. You keep these cards because you already discarded your whole hand, meeting the effect of Have A Nice Day.

Q: If Shane O'Mac is in my Ring area and somehow my Fortitude drops below 15 (Drop Toe Hold, Shake It Off, etc.), can I still use the card?
A: Sure. Once it is in the Ring, it stays there and is active until someone gets rid of it.

Q: Can I end my opponent's turn with an Irish Whip then, as the first card on my turn, play 3D or some other card needing an Irish Whip played beforehand?
A: Yes, because the Whip's effect carries over in to the next turn (as it states on the card). Same for Jockeying For Position and others of this ilk. This does not mean you can end your opponent's turn with a reversal that does enough damage and think to play a High Risk maneuver as the first card on your turn.

Q: I played Diversion + a submission maneuver + Maintain Hold. Do I automatically win?
A: Diversion says that your next maneuver cannot be reversed, so if your next maneuver, a submission in this case, can't be reversed, you'll be able to slap down a Maintain Hold. After that, it is the Maintain Hold doing the damage, so the Diversion does not apply any more: it only affect the card played right after it.

Q: If I got a Maintain Hold out on someone, can we still use our Superstar abilities?
A: Yes. For example, Chyna could still reverse the maintained hold with a submission maneuver from her hand. Undertaker could discard two cards and search for an appropriate reversal, etc.

Q: If a Maintain Hold can be played after Mankind's Mandible Claw and Jericho's Walls Of Jericho as if they were Submission maneuvers, can I reverse either of these moves with a Break The Hold or anything else that reverses Submissions?
A: No. These cards are still Trademark Finishers, not Submissions. You would need a reversal that can stop Trademark Finishers.

Q: Do I have to tell my opponent what I get back using a Recovery? How about when I use the Rock's ability? Or the Undertaker's ability?
A: Your Ringside pile is open for inspection by your opponent. It doesn't mean that your opponent can just grab the pile to look through it, but you must show your opponent the cards in your Ringside piles if the opponent wishes (but we caution players who try to stall a match by looking through the Ringside pile very often). So, because your Ringside pile is "open", your opponent may see what you put into the pile and what you take out of it.

Q: I know successful actions stay in the Ring, but why do cards like Chop, Arm Bar Takedown, and Collar & Elbow Lockup, when played as actions, get discarded?
A: That is their effect and if you want to keep recycling those Chops and such, be our guest. Seriously, some cards break the rules, as mentioned before, but more importantly in this case, these cards can do very little harm if you plan on recycling them often - there should be better cards to recycle as you get deeper in the game.

Q: Do the above cards add to your Fortitude Rating when discarded?
A: No. Only cards in your Ring add to your Fortitude Rating.

Q: If I play Chop as an action, can it be stopped by a Step Aside since Chop is also a Strike?
A: No, because you chose to play Chop as an action. It can only be reversed by a reversal keyed to stopping actions, like No Chance In Hell.

REVERSALS AND REVERSING:

Q: What does it mean when a card says it all reversals to it +2D? Like Discus Punch.
A: This means if someone reverses your Discus Punch, you will take +2D. So a Step Aside will do 2D to you, but Chyna Interferes will do 5D.

Q: Will I take damage if someone overturns a reversal while taking damage from a Discus Punch?
A: Overturned reversals never do damage.

Q: Can Manager Interferes reverse irreversible maneuvers?
A: No, but it can reverse any type of maneuver, like Strikes, Grapples, Finishers, etc. But remember the Golden Rule of irreversible cards: you can't reverse irreversible maneuvers unless a card specifically says so. Also, note, that Manager Interferes cannot reverse cards that can only be reversed by specific cards like Superplex only being able to be reversed by another Superplex or Shove Off The Top Rope.

Q: Can I reverse a grapple maneuver played after an Irish Whip using Shoulder Block or Lou Thesz Press and any other card that say it can reverse a maneuver played after an Irish Whip?
A: Yes, you can reverse a grapple or any other maneuver played after an Irish Whip, even a 3D (as long as the card does not say it cannot be reversed). This ruling has been changed from previous FAQs.

Q: When an opponent plays a successful maneuver against me and I happen to overturn an applicable reversal card from my Arsenal does that reversal come into play or does it's card text effects happen?
A: Make sure you read the text of the reversal card. All reversals will be written in one of three ways: 1) no restriction on when to play; 2) with the "If played from your hand" restriction and; 3) both, with no restriction as the first part of the card and the "If played from your hand" restriction in the second part. For example: let's look at the text of Double Digits:
Reverses any Strike, Grapple or Submission maneuver. End opponent's turn. If played from your hand, opponent must discard 2 cards, then take the top 2 cards from his Arsenal and put them into his Ringside pile.
So, if an opponent gets you in a Bear Hug (submission) and you cannot reverse it from your hand, but while taking damage overturn Double Digits, all you do is stop taking any further damage and end your opponent's turn. Opponent does not discard 2 cards nor does he do anything else. Why? Because Double Digits was not played from your hand.

Q: Does this mean that Lou Thesz Press and Facebuster do nothing when overturned?
A: Correct. Both reversals have the "If played from your hand" restriction, which means they do nothing when overturned.

MANEUVERS:

Q: Can I play Kick, Stagger, Superkick to make the Superkick do 10D of non-reversible damage?
A: Yes and No. Superkick will become non-reversible but will only do 5D.

Q: But the Superkick was played after a 5D Maneuver. Why doesn't it do 10D?
A: Not really: it was played after the Stagger. The intent of any card that says it must be played after a certain card or a card can only be played if another was played before, means that the card in question must have been played immediately after or immediately before. Using the above example, Superkick does an extra 5D if played after a maneuver that did 5D or greater. You cannot play other cards in between and then get the bonus (you can play other cards or use abilities in between if you don't mind losing any bonuses). Cards like Cross Body Block and Back Body Drop require that Irish Whip be played before. This does not mean you can play Irish Whip at the beginning of your turn, play some actions or other maneuvers next, then expect to play the Cross Body Block or Back Body Drop and get the Irish Whip bonus. This is different if an effect states that it gives a bonus to the next maneuver played this turn: you may play other types of cards or use abilities prior to playing the maneuver and still get the bonus. For example, you may play 3 Get Crowd Supports in a row if you wish to give your next maneuver +12D (and your opponent +36F)!

Q: So if I play a successful Kick and have to overturn the top card, which happens to be my last card, in the Arsenal, I still have till the end of my turn before being counted out?
A: Yes.
