QUESTIONS & RULINGS
| Q: Is
the Superstar Ability affected by cards that change the Fortitude
requirements for reversals, like Get Crowd Support or Throw
Into The Corner Turnbuckle? A: No, Chyna's Ability doesn't require Fortitude, and thus is not affected. |
| Q: When
I use the Superstar Ability, is this considered 'reversing from hand'? A: Yes - this was clarified in the latest FAQ. |
| Q: ...does
this mean an opponent would take damage from playing Discus Punch
if I use Chyna's Superstar Ability? A: Yes, 2D. |
| Q: ...does
this mean I could use Set Him Up after using the Superstar
Ability? A: Yes. |
| Q: Does
the Superstar Ability mean you can reverse Clutch Onto Opponent?
How about Claw? A: Yes and no, in that order. Cards that 'can only be reversed by' specific cards can still be reversed by Chyna, such as Superplex. However, since it is 'reversing from hand', she cannot stop the Claw, just as you cannot reverse unreversible cards. |
| Q: Can
you use a card that says 'Suplex' with the Superstar Ability to reverse
a 'Suplex' card played by Tazz? A: Yes. That part of Tazz's SSA only refers to playing a Suplex card as a reversal - what Chyna does is entirely different. |
| Q: In
a Tag Team match, if I use the Superstar Ability, can I 'Tag Out'? A: Yes. |
| Q: Would
Chyna Interferes have any effect when overturned while taking
damage? A: No. |
| Q: If
I use The 9th Wonder Of The World, how does this work with Dirty
Low Blow? A: Chyna cannot target Mid-Match cards, since they cannot be returned to hand. |
ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: Most competitors are not prepared for Chyna, and she can often escape a potentially damaging maneuver unexpectedly before shocking her opponents with surprise attack. In The Game: Chyna's Superstar Ability is one of the most powerful in all of Raw Deal. While no more Chyna-specific cards will be made, her immense reversal ability will survive - discarding any card of the same movetype to reverse that maneuver. Using All Foils/Uniques: Chyna's Pedigree, her Trademark Finisher, is the light standard, though unlike HHH's Pedigree, it has a very useful ability to discard it for a drawn card. This deck has a strong built-in control ability, using 9th Wonder Of The World to rip apart an opponent's established Fortitude (and possibly gaining card advantage), and I'd Rather Be In Chyna to prevent further playing of moves for 3 turns! Her two Strikes are both strong cards: the unreversible Handspring Elbow is strong, using the required Throw as a damage booster, and Chyna's Patented Low Blow is useable as both a Grapple reversal and a Strike reversal (with Chyna's ability). Finally, the strong new Mid-Match card Ovicular Fortitude offers an intriguing trade-off: taking an extra 2D from your opponent's maneuvers in exchange for an extra drawn card each turn. Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: Once again, the Trademark Finisher is easily passed by, though I'd Rather Be In Chyna is such a basic yet powerful defense for 0F, it belongs in any and every deck. While 9th Wonder's 9F requirement may be a little high for low-F control decks (very popular with Chyna), its crushing strong ability makes it worthwhile. If you don't want to depend on Throw Into The Corner Turnbuckle, leaving out the Handspring Elbow is a possibility, but the 6F requirement and the ability to deal 13D that can't be reversed can be worth the effort; conversely, the 9F requirement of Low Blow can make it an easy card to leave out. Ovicular Fortitude, except in decks that intend to stay lower than 10F, should always be included - combining with I'd Rather Be In Chyna can help late in the game. Deck Ideas: One of the most debilitating deck types is a low-F control deck, often referred to as "Great Wall of Chyna" - with cards like I'd Rather Be In Chyna, this is not difficult to conceive. The strong control base can also be used to 'turtle', or reverse heavily until a major attack is launched. And since Throw Into The Corner Turnbuckle is needed for Handspring, it could be the focal point of a Throw/Grapple deck. Recommended Stipulations: Not Done With Any Flair and Four Corners Match both might be good choices, as they give an extra shot at using another Awesome Pyro or Ovicular Fortitude, though No DQ or Chicago Street Fight could be good if the deck is built appropriately. Watch Out For: Two major threats - the first is Ring Rats, and the second is the more brutal Happy You're Here, Happier You're Gone, which can be dealt with by Ovicular - but even that can be taken out by 'Action killers' like Within Your Grasp and Gut Punch. How I Play: I don't currently have a Chyna deck assembled, but my affectionately -named "Dominatrix" deck was heavily-despised. Packing a lot of 0F maneuvers of all types, as well as a few low-F High Risk (mostly for use with Chyna's Ability), it could build Fortitude on the unused movetypes of the opponent, while steadily denying Fortitude! Playing Face allowed for Just Bring It! and Offer Handshake to further the strength of the deck, making it a real juggernaut! |
