QUESTIONS & RULINGS

Q:  Does it matter when the High Risk Maneuver is played for Eddie's Superstar Ability to take effect?
A:  No, the Ability only works on the first High Risk card played in any given turn.

ANALYSIS

In The Ring:  Eddie Guerrero can claim to be the 'King Of The Air', and not many could dispute it!  He can launch fantastic aerial attacks that are difficult, if not impossible, to avoid.

In The Game:  Eddie's first High Risk maneuver (whenever it is played) is completely unreversible - while this may seem like a small ability, it can be absolutely devastating!

Using All Foils/Uniques:  His Trademark Finisher (Guerrero Frog Splash) is slightly less-powerful than the standard, and while it can be played after any type of High Risk reversing, the set-up cost makes it a lot harder to play!  To go with the High Risk theme, Snap Senton Splash is great, especially since it can also be played right after a High Risk reversal - though with 2 SV, you may want to play it after the unreversible High Risk.  Study For Your GED is a fantastic card for setting up shop, and it's required to play Get Your GED - which makes this card very hard to play, though it is an extremely powerful recovery device!  Latino Heeeeeeeeeat! can be difficult to use effectively, but may be helpful late in the game.  And while Eddie's Roll Up may not seem effective at first glance, but if your timing is right, it can win you the game - you'll get some help from Último Rechazo, which is like a Mid-Match Elbow To The Face without the 7D limit, and best of all, puts 2 more cards in your hand!

Using Some/No Foils/Uniques:  For more cases than usual, the Trademark Finisher can be left out, especially since it has a requirement to get it into play.  Since Eddie doesn't lend himself toward low Fortitude, requirements for cards like Study For Your GED and Snap Senton Splash are not unreasonable, and while they can be left out, should be considered valuable resources.  Certainly everyone who can should have Rechazo in their Backlash deck - it really is invaluable! However, Get Your GED and Latino's requirements can be a little burdensome, and cause many to leave them out without too much loss to their decks as a whole.  Finally, Eddie's Roll Up is an unusual card that most will pass up without too much loss, but if you design your deck around it, it may lead to an early, unexpected victory!

Deck Ideas: Due to Eddie's Ability, it's rare to the point of unwise to use a low-Fortitude deck, unless it's to 'turtle' and hide until you launch one major all-out assault - although Mania offers another chance, as small maneuvers like Feign Strike and Within Your Grasp might allow Spinning Crescent Kick to build Fortitude quickly.  So most Guerrero decks are simply variations on the general High Risk theme, though the 'subtle' variations are important.  For example, playing Heel means you can use Dirty Low Blow for easy Fortitude, then Spit your opponent's hand away, lowering their defenses, and possibly winning the game with Eddie's Roll Up or Quick Count Ref.  However, playing Face can set up a Turn The Tide maneuver into another unreversible High Risk follow-up.  A heavy-hand oriented Giant Swing theme could work, setting up a Suicide Plancha or Drive Opponent that can't be blocked. Another thought is a Ladder deck, where you try to get 2-3 of them in the ring, then land one big unreversible High Risk like Asai Moonsault or Superplex for maximum effect.

Recommended Stipulations: While Eddie's Ability and foils make him adaptable to several Stipulations, my personal favorite is No DQ, since I feel Eddie works a little better as a Heel, and it makes Lita To The Xtreme only 1F to play, which is easy after throwing out Último Rechazo!

Watch Out For: Lita, since one of the key cards in any Eddie deck should be Lita To The Xtreme - though Sustained Damage could make your life miserable if your opponent keeps discarding just enough to keep you from meeting the High Risk requirement.

How I Play:  Since converting to the Backlash format, my deck is Heel, taking advantage of Dirty Low Blow to make 2F Strikes more easily playable after Dirty Low Blow.  It uses Spits to gain card advantage, and Drive Opponent launched either From The Top Rope or by using a Roll Out Of The Ring.  Also of importance are 2 Litas that make sure the unreversible High Risk attacks can be launched.
