QUESTIONS & RULINGS
| Q: If
I use the Superstar Ability, does it break the chain between a set-up
move and a High Risk maneuver? A: No, Superstar Abilities do not break chains. |
| Q: Who
chooses the cards discarded when the Superstar Ability is used - or is
it random? A: No, both players choose their own card to discard. |
| Q: In
a Multiplayer game, how does the Superstar Ability work? A: You choose the player you want to use it against. |
| Q: If
I use Maintain Hold after Walls Of Jericho, does that mean
it can be reversed with a Submission reversal? A: No, it can still only be reversed by a card capable of reversing Trademark Finishers. |
| Q: When
I play Ayatollah Of Rock-n-Roll'a, can my opponent reverse
maneuvers from his Backlash deck? A: Yes, Ayatollah only prevents reversing 'from your hand.' This is not the same as reversing from your Backlash deck. |
| Q: If
I have Jericholics in play, and my opponent makes me discard with
Spit At Opponent (for example), what happens? A: According to the latest FAQ, Jericholics cancels the whole discarding effect. |
ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: Chris Jericho precedes his matches with insulting tirades and quite a bit of mocking, and his antics often cause his opponent's to lose focus. In The Game: Once per turn, Jericho can discard a card to force an opponent to do the same. Using All Foils/Uniques: The Trademark Finisher, Walls Of Jericho, is a little less damaging than the standard, and while Maintain Hold may not get the opportunity to be played, it could finish off an opponent already close to defeat. Jericho's High Risk cards are powerful and effective - Lionsault can build Fortitude very fast, and while Springboard Dropkick's requirement can be cumbersome, it can also make a stunning and shocking reversal to Roll Out Of The Ring. Jericho carries strong reversal ability - Don't You Never... EVER! can provide helpful card advantage from hand, while having Superior Acrobatics in your Backlash deck will give you a card of choice from you Arsenal when played. Y2J can help seal card advantage, Jericholics can help keep it, and Ayatollah of Rock'n'Roll-a may seal a victory is played correctly - but best of all, Would You Please ... Shut The Hell Up! makes Jericho's ability even stronger (especially when coupled with Happy You're Here, Happier You're Gone!) Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: In the Backlash environment, Trademark Finishers are commonly left out of deck, and Walls gives no reason to change this plan. Generally, every Jericho deck should have Don't You Never and Superior Acrobatics, as well as Y2J, but Jericholics is often left out of decks - personally, I believe this card is underrated and will be more useful in the new Backlash style, but if you don't have use for it, leave it out. Springboard Dropkick can be a little bulky and hard to use, proceed at your own risk - but Lionsault is great; use this unless you intentionally plan to stay low in Fortitude. The pairing of Shut The hell Up with the new card Happy You're Here should be used by everyone as long as possible to rip cards out of your opponents hand. Finally, Ayatollah is powerful if used correctly (though many incorrectly believe Backlash! removes its strength) - low-F decks might pass on it, but it's a key card in Aggro decks! Deck Ideas: The most obvious route for Jericho is a Heel discard theme, commonly using Spit At Opponent and often Drawing Extra Heat, and Dirty Low Blow to access Spinning Heel Kick early on - though this also has its own variations. Jericho can be used as a High Risk machine, using not only his foils, but other High Risk - since he starts with a good handsize, gains benefits from Awesome Pyro, and can use Y2J for a huge boost. Decks can also be made to center around Ladder In The Ring for a devastating High Risk like Springboard, especially if played after Ayatollah. And if nothing else, you can just discard your opponent to death by setting up combinations like Butterfly Suplex/Running Bulldog/Debilitating Injury: Concussion to keep your opponent out of cards while you do whatever else you like! Recommended Stipulations: Some have suggested Hell In A Cell, as the cards your opponent discards can't be retrieved (for most); Four Corners may be a good choice, to allow for more options later, like Superior Acrobatics or Concussion. Watch Out For: Edge & Christian, as their ability may negate a lot of the discard-oriented maneuvers Jericho decks often use; also, card drawing decks like X-Pac, Foley, and Spike Dudley could be a problem. How I Play: Other than Pre- and Mid-Match cards, Backlash has not brought many changes to my Y2J deck - a Strike/Grapple base that fuels a discard theme, and builds toward an Ayatollah/From The Top Rope/Springboard Dropkick combination. |
