ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: The size and strength of Kane gives him a very intimidating presence, often causing opponents to lose matches they might normally have won. In The Game: Kane's Superstar Ability causes your opponent to turn over the top card of his deck at the beginning of each turn. Using All Foils/Uniques: The Trademark Finisher, Kane's Tombstone Piledriver fits the standard, though it gives a Fortitude reduction if used after Kane's Chokeslam - a strong mid-game maneuver. Kane's Flying Clothesline is an awesome High Risk maneuver, with a bit of a whiplash effect if countered from hand. Hellfire & Brimstone can give a player a serious edge by negating all hands, and burning your opponent's Arsenal; further damage to their deck comes from the new Chains Of Destruction, sacrificing a card each turn to do the same to your opponent; finally, you can throw in Born Of Hellfire to start the destruction early, especially since it adds damage to your maneuvers! However, Kane's real strength lies in his reversal ability; Tori Enters The Fray! gives recovery while issuing some damage, Masked Vengeance also issues damage while giving a strong card advantage, the new Boot To The Face makes a good Strike or reversal, and Kane's Return gives a damage booster and a Fortitude plunge for the next turn - possibly creating a game-winning situation! And not to be overlooked is Brothers 'Til The End, the Mid-Match reversal; while not as strong for Kane, it's still a strong omni-reversal, especially as a card available on demand! Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: Like many other decks, playing without the Trademark Finisher is not necessarily a great loss. If your deck isn't focused on high-Fortitude cards, Kane's Chokeslam and Flying Clothesline can likewise be set aside. However, Kane's strength is his reversal ability; therefore, cards like Boot To The Face, Tori, Masked Vengeance, and Kane's Return should all remain in your deck except in very rare instances. Even if your deck keeps a large handsize as a defense, Hellfire & Brimstone is a keeper as well, since it's 5-card milling effect could end the game for you - conversely, carefully plan if you want to include Chains, as unprepared play could cost you your own deck! But certainly Born Of Hellfire is worth solid consideration - if not for the damage boost, then for the initial burn of cards. Finally, if you have a low Fortitude deck, Brothers 'Til The End may not work for you - but in most, it's a good card to fall back on if needed. Deck Ideas: With the strength of reversals, not to mention the handsize increases from Underrated and Pyro - the most common deck theme is a fairly low-F lockdown deck, frequently using cards like Shane O'Mac, Enter The Stratus-Phere, and the new foil Chains Of Destruction to burn away your opponent's deck while reversing their maneuvers. However, the large handsize can also help power an aggressive stance, (especially with Born Of Hellfire) using the foil maneuvers as a base of attacks, perhaps with other High Risks as well. Another idea is to use cards like Alcolyte Protection Agency, or Maintain Hold to keep a low-D submission locked on, while causing your opponent to burn cards all the while. Recommended Stipulations: Hell In A Call Match could be vicious for Kane with all his cards that cause your opponents' overturning, though bad shuffling could backfire. Otherwise, No DQ could be good (moreso for a Heel deck), as it allows Brothers to be played at 17F. Watch Out For: Other than 'removal' cards like Gut Punch and Shake It Off, the biggest thing to fear seems to be Mankind/Cactus Jack! Foley Is Good cancels the advantage of Born Of Hellfire, and his recovery can make Hell In A Cell a poor choice of stipulations. How I Play: Using a mono-Grapple base, Kane can quickly get Fortitude, using his reversals both to slow an opponent and build his own Fortitude. Maintaining a large hand (playing Face) can help lead to use of Armageddon WWF Style to ruin an enemy's plans in his Ring area, followed up by an attack using the many 0F Grapples. |
