ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: William Regal was the Commissioner of the WWF for quite some time, able to wield political power backstage; but in the ring, he has always been a crafty competitor, able to pull clever tactics unexpectedly. In The Game: Regal's ability allows you to, once per turn, grab one of 6 cards from your deck. Using All Foils/Uniques: The Trademark Finisher, Regal Stretch, is the standard for Submission-style TMFs (like Walls Of Jericho or Crippler Crossface), though it's ability to reverse Submissions can be a pleasant boost. Commissioner Regal's Decree is a great Action for getting rid of an annoying card, as well as scrambling your opponent's hand, and cost them a turn. Union Jack is fantastic as a good maneuver, a good reversal, and a total shock when you catch someone trying to Offer Handshake! I've Been Besmirched! is a great overturned reversal with an additional discard effect when used as an Action, especially once you use all 3 of them. And finally, Goodwill Ambassador makes a handy little pair of Action abilities - peeking at your opponent's hand while getting some recovery, not restricted by Right To Censor or Two-Man Power Trip. Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: If your deck has a low-Fortitude benchmark, Stretch can be left out, as can Union Jack - most people won't play Handshake once you hit 18F anyway! Decree is an excellent card (especially against Christian!), unless your decks functions below 15F, keep this one around. Also worth keeping are all 3 copies of Ambassador and Besmirched - they're low in Fortitude and have excellent uses! Deck Ideas: Regal's foils give him quite a selection of style to play. For example, you could use High Risk after a Clutch/Leverage chain, or use several Commission-ers to clean their hand of reversals to make sure the set-up maneuver goes through. Another idea is to use Enter The Stratus-Phere to use the extra card you draw each turn and burn your opponent's deck, perhaps enhanced by cards like Daddy's Little Girl and Backed By Stephanie McMahon. A discard theme is also possible, with Commissioners on tap and use of key cards. Recommended Stipulations: If you go Heel, No DQ can prevent a pesky Disqualification or having Hebner interfere. However, Duchess Of Queensbury might be a good choice, and not just for Hell In A Cell defense - it gives an extra kick to Regal, who recovers 1/5th of his deck! Watch Out For: J.R. Style Slobber-Knocker can hurt your deck by stopping 5 of the 6 cards Regal can retrieve - consider using Indian Strap Match (since you draw another card to discard with whatever you use) or carrying Money Talks, BS Walks. How I Play: My plan for Regal is to absorb a lot of damage using Over Sell Maneuver, I've Been Besmirched, and Sustained Damage while building Fortitude with Submissions - the choice is, do you Turn The Tide into a big maneuver after clearing their hand using Besmirched and Who Booked This Match?, or do you launch an attack with Clutch/Leverage barrage after clearing their hand of Clean Break and Strangle Hold with Commission-er Rules? |
