ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: Rikishi is a major force to be reckoned with, able to throw his weight around with devastating effects, which can often allow him to attempt a move other wrestlers might not be prepared to face. In The Game: Rikishi's Superstar Ability allows him to discard two cards from hand (modified by I Did It For You!) to take one maneuver of choice from his deck. Using All Foils/Uniques: The Trademark Finisher, A%$ Drop, is strong but with a very high set-up requirement, it may be rather difficult to use. Rikishi Driver is a strong mid-match maneuver, and the ability to seek out A%$ Drop is a nice perk. The set-up requirement can make Stink Face harder to play, but the additional effect of your opponent discarding their whole hand is well worth it. And it can be searched for when playing Back That A%$ Up; a good card in it's own right, able to build Fortitude quickly. Drive, Rikishi, Drive is an awesome way to gain card advantage, while I Did It For You! hones the Superstar Ability into a stronger asset. And the non-unique reversal, Gettin' Cheeky With It!, provides both strong reversing ability and card advantage - use all 3 if you can acquire them. Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: Of all the foil cards with the possibility to be left out, the first choice is almost always the Trademark Finisher, especially because of its high set-up requirement! Stink Face can also be difficult to use, but easy to remove, as Backlash! can counter it. If your deck isn't ready to use Throw Into The Corner Turnbuckle, Back can be left out as well, as can Rikishi Driver if you want to stay low in Fortitude. However, every Rikishi deck (with very few exceptions!) should have both Drive and I Did It, as they give any deck both card advantage and increased ability, and 3 copies of Cheeky. Deck Ideas: Widely considered to be one of the hardest decks to bring to a competitive level, making a strong Rikishi deck is no easy feat. Some have found success with a Throw Into The Corner Turnbuckle-oriented deck, using unreversible Grapples as a primary attack. Others have found High Risk to be helpful, especially since you can search for the cards you want over several turns with the Superstar Ability. Giant Swing and Tiger Bomb can help grant protection from Backlash! and Answers when using Rikishi's foils. A Heel combination of Hair Pull and Grapple cards has been effective for some. And finally, a Strike deck using a 'free' Pier Six Brawl can have many uses, especially with Turnbuckle Smash or setting up High Risk maneuvers. Recommended Stipulations: A Strike-heavy deck might want to use No DQ match to allow cards like Struck By A Kendo Stick and Garbage Can Lid to be played more quickly, or Chicago Street Fight for increased accessibility - or just Four Corners for the extra Mid-Match slot so I Did It doesn't become a burden. Watch Out For: Cactus Jack/Mankind will prevent the damage boosting cards like Pier Six Brawl from having any effect, and the new breed of 'Action killers' like Feign Strike and Money Talks, 'BS' Walks will keep I Did It from staying in play for very long. How I Play: My Rikishi deck was dismantled, but I worked on it after getting an idea about Strikes for Rob Zeida - using Pier Six Brawl & Small Concealed Foreign Object to boost Strikes into 8D or greater, negating most of their Strike reversals while fetching a new maneuver each turn, building to bigger combos like No Mercy/Tiger Bomb/Stink Face. |
