QUESTIONS & RULINGS
| Q: When
I use the Superstar Ability, do I pick a random card? A: You may pick any card in the discard pile. |
| Q: With
The Brahma Bull in play, do things that add D to maneuvers
happen before or after The Brahma Bull kicks in? A: Before. Refer to the FAQ for more details, but in summary, The Brahma Bull happens after everything else, so the maneuver affected is still just 1D. |
| Q: With
The Brahma Bull in play, can effects reducing Fortitude
requirements (Tazz's SSA, Ego Boost, etc.) cause a maneuver to be
affected by The Brahma Bull? A: Yes. If Road Dogg played Ego Boost, then Juke "N" Jive (a 5F/0D unreversible maneuver with additional effects) would be 0F, and thus a 1D Strike that is fully reversible, with no additional effects. |
| Q: With
The Brahma Bull in play, and Defensive Cover out,
which takes place first? A: Since they are both your cards, you may choose: Either Defensive Cover can reduce the damage to 0D by taking effect last, or The Brahma Bull can leave the maneuver as 1D. |
ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: The Rock is certainly one of the most charismatic WWF superstars, but during a match, he can often seem unbeatable - taking an enormous beatdown only to keep coming back for more! In The Game: At the beginning of every turn, The Rock's Superstar Ability allows him to place one card of choice from his discard pile at the bottom of his Arsenal. Using All Foils/Uniques: One of the most unusual Trademark Finishers, The People's Elbow has no Fortitude requirement and only minimal damage - but either Rock Bottom or Spinebuster must be in play before Elbow can be landed; meanwhile, it still serves as a powerful action! Rock Bottom itself is a very powerful maneuver in its own right, though using it as either an unblockable maneuver or a reversal is clearly preferred. You can have up to 3 Patented Rock Footstomps in your deck - they are a good maneuver, not overly powerful, but definitely worth using. The Rock only has one reversal card, but Take That Move... can work well with continuous recycling (using the Special Ability) or when played from hand for a total of 6 cards (including the Special Ability used on the next turn) returned to the deck. But Rock's strongest point are his actions: Do You Smell... can make any card unreversible (best when used with Rock Bottom, obviously); Smackdown Hotel can take a small card and make it stronger, while giving a 'peek', possibly for Heel Turn, or for a wicked Clutch Onto Opponent; and The People's Eyebrow is a fantastic recovery, putting cards both in your Arsenal and your hand! Shades Of The Great One is fantastic for allowing an early key card to be played, like Enter The Stratus-Phere or even Do You Smell for an early unreversible maneuver. But hands down, The Rock's best card is The Brahma Bull, turning all cards 4F or lower into mere 1D cards, with no additional text - this turns Rock decks from good to overwhelming! Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: The exception to the trend of decks without Trademark Finishers is clearly The People's Elbow - even if you never use it as a maneuver, it's a fantastic action for putting cards in hand, especially with Rock's small Starting Handsize. However, low-Fortitude decks can freely omit Rock Bottom, especially since Spinebuster serves as a smaller version of the card. Any Rock deck should have Take That Move..., as well as Smackdown Hotel; and unless you're playing a very low-F control deck that can't reach 7F, add Eyebrow and Do You Smell wherever possible. If Strikes aren't part of your plan, Footstomps are not crucial cards, nor is Shades if your Pre-Match strategy has other plans. But whenever it is possible, every single Rock deck should have The Brahma Bull and use it - it redefines the Rock, and no matter what your style, (Aggro, Lockdown, Turtle, etc.) Brahma Bull can help keep cards in your deck and stop smaller High Risk maneuvers. Deck Ideas: With a formidable card like Brahma Bull, the obvious deckstyle would be control (in some circles, known as 'Stone Wall'); loading up on reversals like Clumsy Opponent to stop 1D maneuvers, while building a small amount of Fortitude (adding in Clutch, perhaps?) for cards like JR Style and Take This Move.... There's also a more aggressive style, using Rock-related cards like Spinebuster and Sharpshooter while ripping a deck in half. A Turn The Tide theme can work well (Heel Turn is hardly a threat for a deck that replaces one card each turn!), letting your opponent build Fortitude while taking minimal damage, often with Half Hour Suplex as the focal point, moreso with Shades keep your opponent locked down at 5F. On the other hand, Heel decks are popular with some Rock players, using cards like Spit At Opponent to gain early card advantage, especially with Clutch/Leverage as the final attack point of the deck. Recommended Stipulations: Considering both Calling You Out and Old School could reduce you to one (non-Stipulation) Pre-Match card, you may want to use Not Done With Any Flair to add an extra slot for both Brahma Bull or Shades Of The Great One. However, if you have a good strategy in mind, others can be adapted to this deck. Watch Out For: Ring-clearing cards like I've Got Two Words For Ya and Armageddon WWF Style, as well as discard-heavy themes utilizing Concussion and the like to wear down your hand. How I Play: I despise playing Control - I feel like I should go watch paint dry instead. The Rock deck I use is about as close as I come: reversal-heavy, building to a strong attack point while taking minimal damage, with Turn The Tide as a last resort in case of falling behind, often finishing someone off with Do You Smell/Rock Bottom. |
