QUESTIONS & RULINGS
| Q: Can
the Superstar Ability be used to retrieve a Superplex or TazzPlex card? A: No, the Ability only works on cards that have the word "Suplex." |
| Q: What
does the last sentence of the Superstar Ability mean? A: The cards titled Belly To Belly Suplex, Vertical Suplex, and Belly To Back Suplex each have the ability to reverse a card with the same title. However, if Tazz plays (for example) Vertical Suplex, an opponent cannot play Vertical Suplex as a reversal. |
| Q: If
I use Maintain Hold after Tazzmission, does that mean it
can be reversed with a Submission reversal? A: No, it can still only be reversed by a card capable of reversing Trademark Finishers. |
ANALYSIS
|
In The Ring: Undeniably, Tazz is the Master of the Suplex. He knows more styles and can nail complicated Suplex maneuvers without hesitation, and he can pull one out when you least expect it! In The Game: Tazz's Superstar Ability is threefold: first, any card with the word "Suplex" in the title is -4F; second, once per turn he can discard one card to search his deck for any "Suplex" card; and third, cards like Vertical Suplex that can reversed themselves cannot be used against Tazz. Using All Foils/Uniques: While his Trademark Finisher, the Tazzmission may not be the most devastating maneuver (even when Maintain Hold is played), there is no other card in the game capable of reversing a Strike, Grapple, and Submission that can deal out this much damage! Most of Tazz's foils are Grapples - called 'Tazzplexes.' Northern Lights Tazzplex is a good maneuver, but works even better as a Grapple reversal; the same goes for Head & Arms Tazzplex, only it reverses High Risk instead - absolutely devastating against cards like Undertaker's Flying Clothesline or Ladder In The Ring! The power of a 13D unreversible maneuver doesn't require much explanation - clearly T-Bone Tazzplex is powerful, hands down. Tazz also has two strong actions: Thug It-Dead gives powerful recovery for offensive maneuvers, as well as card advantage; while Just Another Victim can either give just card advantage, or if played early and properly, completely lock up a win. But his newest card may be his most powerful - Tough Enough can stop a troublesome Action while providing a troubling side effect. Using Some/No Foils/Uniques: Because of the nature of Tazz's Ability, low-F decks are not commonly found, so it's natural to build Fortitude quickly - while a lot of players leave Trademark Finishers out of their deck, some consider leaving Tazzmission for use strictly as a reversal. Likewise Northern Lights and Head & Arms can be left for their reversal ability, or taken out as needed. Keep T-Bone around unless you're having Fortitude problems, and unless you have only a few Suplex cards in your deck, Thug It is a keeper - roughly the equivalent of a Puppies! card. However, all decks should pack Tough Enough, as it's better than No Chance In Hell for both availability and cost, not to mention dodging Per Order's restrictions. Finally, Victim can be removed if it doesn't fit the gameplan of your deck, but consider keeping it, especially if you have card-searching ability like Do You Like Pie?. Deck Ideas: While the obvious theme is to load the deck up with 3 of every 'Suplex', the variations on this are also wide, as Face decks can use Marking Out to remove Grapple reversals, while Heel decks can Spit for card advantage and Bait for unreversible Suplexes. However, you can use just a few Suplex cards for building Fortitude (Double Underhook, Belly To Belly, and possibly Vertical and/or German if Elbow To The Face or Dirty Low Blow is in play), and run another theme. Ideas for this include High Risk (especially for evading Backlash!), Submissions either with Maintain Hold or without, or strong Reversals. One last thought worth a look is a 'Stun deck', using the Stun Value from Tazz foils and key Suplex cards like German and Double Underhook to set up Seeing Stars or You're Not In My League - or best of all, Ring Rats. Basically, Suplex cards are the bread of the deck - you can choose whatever else you want for the rest of the sandwich. Recommended Stipulations: Nothing really stands out for Tazz, though Not Done With Any Flair gives additional protection for the same amount of Pre-Match slots. Of course, for defense Duchess Of Queensbury or No DQ (for Heel decks) could be used. Watch Out For: Well, it's the Big Show that presents the biggest challenge, since he can take Tazz's suplexes and negate them down to 3D, and only Spinning Crescent Kick could follow them up (as far as High Risk goes). Also, a good Rock deck can make Tazz's life difficult, as you have to get to 9F (Butterfly Suplex) to be out of range of Brahma Bull. How I Play: Before I dismantled my Tazz deck, it was the "Big Red Hook Machine." It used Shane O'Mac and Enter The Stratus-Phere since Fortitude was easy for Tazz. However, my plan when I rebuild for Backlash is to use many Suplex cards with Throw Into The Corner Turnbuckle, and Superplex - especially gaining card advantage through You're Not In My League & Don't Mess With The Champ. |
