for my children, niece and nephews...

This website is my attempt to provide information about my family's lineage, especially the Newcomb line. I've also provided some information about the Natale family (my mother's line) and some brief information about the Simser line (my kids' father's line).

Many thanks to others who have traced the Newcomb lineage over the years. I cite numerous web pages below that have some detailed descriptions of those in my direct line.

I am 13th generation Newcomb based on the 1923 "Andrew Newcomb and His Descendants" by Bethuel M. Newcomb.

468. SIMON Newcomb, born 1662 in Isles of Shoals, Kittery, York, ME; died January 20, 1745 in Lebanon, New London, Conn.. He was the son of 936. Andrew Newcomb II, Leuit. and 937. Sarah ?. He married 469. Deborah ? 1687 in Edgartown, Dukes County, Martha's Vineyard, MA.

At the time of his birth SIMON Newcomb's parents were residing upon one of the islands of the group called "Isles of Shoals," situated in the ocean, a few miles from Kittery and Portsmouth. It appears that the first four years of his life were spent on what was then called Hog Island or Appledore, the most picturesque of the "Shoals." The next four years were spent on the mainland, in the village of Kittery. Soon after he was eight years old the family removed to Edgartown, on the Island of Martha's Vineyard, Dukes Co., Mass., where they remained until the autumn of 1713, when his father established the family at Lebanon, New London Co., Conn.

Mr. Newcomb's name first appears upon record as owning land at Sagadahock, Me., in 1686. Under date of 26 July 1693, he bought land; recorded Salem, Me., 28 Aug. 1693, "near the mouth of Sagadahock River."

m.2. Grace in 1663

from: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/3266/newcomb.htm
Capt. Andrew Newcomb. He emigrated from the West of England, probably from Devonshire or Wales, and settled at Boston, Massachusetts. Although he is believed to have arrived with the earliest settlers of New England, between 1630 and 1640, first definite mention of him is made in 1663. In that year he married his second wife Grace, widow of William Ricks or Rix.

Captain Newcomb was a mariner and ship-master. The dates of his birth and death are believed to have been about 1618 and 1686, respectively. He had two children by his first wife, whose name is not known. These were Andrew (2) and Susannah; and by his second wife he had another daughter, named Grace. [NOTE: other records indicate his 2nd wife was Grace; see the children named above from that marriage.] His descendants have become numerous and are, at the present day, found widely scattered throughout the United States.

See Paul Newcomb's website http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/n/e/w/Paul-R-Newcomb/GENE1-0001.html for some wonderful notes about generations 1 - 4, which we have in common. Paul has the same lineage through Rupert (10): his father William and George (11) were brothers.
