Hi Friends
Our annual Kid’s Night Out with McGruff was at the South Norfolk recreation Center on October 22nd, and we had a BLAST!!! At last count we had 106 kids sign up, and I think there were a couple who excitingly ran in without signing up. We also had 66 adults sign in on the Neighborhood Watch attendance sheet. Great showing, neighbors!!! There were lots of activities going on from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. And I want to thank everyone who volunteered, participated, and donated food or items. Our Chesapeake Police Department was there in force with Major Tony Torres, Officer Lynn Sumner, Major Branch, Chief K. Wright, Deputy Chief Solesky, Captain E. Woods, and our Crime Prevention Officers, Officers Simpkins and Franceschi. Officer H. McGanty and Officer Hills were our Bike officers.
Our Sheriff’s Department commanded a presence as well with Deputy Nancy Massow and Deputy Terry Nanher who took fingerprints for the Ident a Kid Program. Dave, the Magician, controlled the audience with his Magic Show. The explorer group and their advisor Shelly Wagner was a tremendous help. Our clowns were there doing fantastic face painting. There were plenty of hamburgers, hotdogs, and cookies for everyone. Jokell Company (Tim Turlington and about six other company employees provided food and cooked for us). Matt and Shelia Krakower from the Chesapeake Crime Line had a table and gave out information for the Chesapeake Crime Line and bags for our little ghouls and goblins to use on that special evening next weekend. Some of the games that were available and always fun were: musical chairs, oversize basketball toss, tic tac toe, stick your hand in the Goo, and more.
There are still more, who made the night a success; Jeff Prather (McGruff), Doc O'Hara, Lydia and Tim Plaster, Cathy Sitar, and Tony the supervisor for the recreation center, and her personnel, who decorated and set up the games. I can’t finish without recognizing our Chesapeake Crime Prevention Council members, Ferne O’Hara, Judy Haddock, and Teresa Shuma for all they did for Kids Night Out, and all they do constantly for Crime Prevention in our city.
And finally, a special thanks to our Guest of Honor, and what the night was all about, McGruff, the Crime Dog.

God Bless,
Phil Durbin
