Would you like to know more about your Police Department? Join Citizen Police Academy
What is the Chesapeake Police citizen Academy (CCPA)? The CCPA is a 14-week, one -evening-a-week course designed to acquaint Chesapeake citizens with the many facets of our Police Department. Applicants for CCPA must be 18years old, a Chesapeake citizen, and pass a criminal background check. Two sessions are typically conducted. One in the spring and one in the fall.
Where are the classes held? Classes are held throughout the City, under the direction and guidance of the Chesapeake Police Academy, depending on the subject matter.
Who teaches the classes? Subject Matter Experts from the Police Department, including Command Staff, Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Department present interesting, thought-provoking, and eye-opening presentations of their particular area(s) of expertise.
What topics are covered? Among topics typically covered* are:
· Use of force * SWAT Team Demonstration · Tour of courts and jail * Crime Analysis · Crime Prevention & Block Security · Drugs, Special Investigations and Search Warrant · Firearms Range (participants can fire a standard Police service weapons) · Ride-Along(s) with Patrol officers as they cover their “beat” Tour of Forensics Labs * K-9 Unit Demonstration
* Please note: all tours and classes are subject to availability of personnel, emergency situations occurring, weather, and other matters, and are the sole discretion of the Police Department.

Graduation : After the completion of the course, participants are awarded a “Certificate of Completion,” typically presented by the Chief of Police at a graduation Ceremony.
After Graduation: Graduates of the Chesapeake Citizens Police Academy are eligible for membership in the Chesapeake Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association ( CCPAAA). Meeting are held monthly to hear guest speakers, enjoy social activities, keep abreast of police activities, and receive updated information on volunteer opportunities. Individual volunteerism with the Police Department is encouraged.

The CCPC Event Schedule indicates the date for our December meeting as December 11th. THIS IS INCORRECT …….. meetings are held on Thursdays. Correct date is Thursday, December 10th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Location is the Central Library – Great Bridge. This is our Christmas meeting – refreshments will be served. If you would like to bring your favorite desert, please feel free to do so. Also, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to be donated to the Southeastern Food Bank if you or your neighborhood would like to participate. |
