MANAGEMENT |
| When I served as Commission Chair, I tried to run the PZC
in a fair, cooperative and non-partisan manner. My objective was to
have the PZC operate by consensus as much as possible. Specific
approaches included:
|
 | Appointing the best members to leadership
roles, regardless of party. I had Republicans as Secretary
and chair of an ad hoc committee. |
 | Running meetings and public
hearings in an orderly and calm manner, giving everyone an opportunity
to be heard. |
 | Working to achieve a "win-win"
solution with applicants, resulting in developments which benefit the
Town. |
|
|
COMMUNICATION |
I feel very strongly that the work of the PZC
warrants the attention of all of the citizens of Cheshire. To that
end, I have taken several steps:
 | I have set up this web
page to inform all of Cheshire's
citizens of upcoming actions and hearing of the Commission. |
 | We began broadcasting
the public hearings to increase their visibility. |
 | Through frequent letters
to the Herald, I have givne a perspective on the efforts of the PZC. |

|
SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS |
in addition to the regular business, applications
by developers, the PZC made some very significant changes during my tenure:
 | We revised the Plan
of Development & Conservation to
make it more specific and useful as a planning device. |
 | After extensive hearings and consultations, we
passed an aquifer protection regulation
that safeguards our water supply without discouraging development. |
 | We protected local merchants and the
nature of the Town by prohibiting "big
box" store larger than 50,000
square feet. |
 | New lighting
regulations protect our
neighborhoods and the overall environment from the annoyance of light
pollution. |
 | Improved cell
tower regulations give the Town
a more concrete basis for evaluating proposals. |
 | Passed age restricted
housing regulations to diversify our
housing stock and increase tax revenues, without burdening Town
services. |
