Discussion

Based on the exact correspondence of birth dates (Trinity Lutheran Church, Berks Co, PA and death record for St. Aloysius Church, Adams Co, PA), the Mary Magdalena Kraft who married Jacob Baumgardner must be from the Lutheran family of Conrad Kraft.

In keeping to a Catholic line, it is tempting to attach Magdalena Kraft to Michael Krafft and his wife Elizabeth Adams. However, Michael and Elizabeth had two daughters named Magdalena. Per the Goshenhoppen, Bally, PA records - 1) KRAFFT, Magdalen, of Michael Krafft and his wife, b 8 Mar 1770, bapt 11 Mar; sponsors Leonard Litzinger and wife 2) KRAFFT, Magdalen, of Michael Krafft and his wife Elizabeth, b 27 June 1782, bapt 15 July in the church; sponsors Leonard Litzinger and his wife Magdalen. These might be one and the same, with a mix up of dates, or the earlier Magdalen died and they had another child Magdalen. However, in either case, Michael's daughter would be too young to be the Magdalene who was wife of Jacob Baumgardner. Her birthdate is based on entry in the St. Aloysius Church for her death and on her grave stone. Getting the whole birth date wrong makes simple transcription errors unlikely. Also, since she began having children 1787, she could not possibly have been born in 1782.

The IGI has an entry for a Mary Magdelena Krafft, b. 23 Dec 1765 in York, PA (AFN#2 FF6-XX), daughter of Johann Jacob Krafft and Maria Dorothea Nes.
