• 10 Aug 1867 - OF THOMAS and PATRICK CONCANNON, natives of the parish of Dysart, county Roscommon, Ireland, who sailed for America about twenty years ago: when last heard from Thomas was in Nevada county, California, in June, 1862, and Patrick was in Cambridge. Wayne county, Indiana, in November, 1860. Any information of them will be thankfully received by their brother, John Bernard Concannon, St. Bonaventure's College. Thomas P. Concannon was born 1860 in Roundport, County Mayo, Ireland, and died 1930 in buried in Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY. He married (1) Annie McArdle 1887. He married (2) Mary Flynn 1896.

Rosalee Concannon, daughter of Levi B. & Mary Ann Tharp Concannon, in late 1800s

Rosalee Concannon born March 14 1871. Her parents were Levi B. Concannon and Mary Ann Tharp (Thorp). No one seems to know anything about Rosalee: I have two birth "places" for her One Indiana and on a marriage certificate she herself said Muscatine Iowa. However in researching in Iowa, Muscatine, no records are there of her except for her first marriage to Charles F. Knowlton on Dec. 25, 1889. I am trying to place her with her parents Levi and Mary Ann.

Martin Concannon & Honora Relihan in Norfolk, VA; changed name to Cannon

Martin Concannon came from Ireland in the 1850s, I believe, and married Honora Relihan (from Co. Kerry Ireland) in Norfolk, VA. in Sept. 1859. They were Catholics and changed their last name to Cannon in the 1860s. His death certificate listed his parents as Charles Cannon and Catherine O'Connor of Ireland. Martin died in Norfolk in 1896. He and Honora had 3 sons: Charles (1860 to 1900), Michael (1863-1919) and William (1865 to 1950).

Hannah Jane Concannon, presumed to be from Co. Kerry, IRE and born July, 1826. She married a James Newell, who died in 1883. They had at least 10 children. One daughter, Anna Jane (Newell) Carroll was born 06-24-1871 in Co. Mayo, IRE. Hannah (Concannon) Newell came to America in 1899. Anna came to America previously in 1887.

Patrick J. Concannon, born 1863 in Ireland or on board ship en route to the U. S., was raised in Delaware Township, Leavenworth County, Kansas. In 1890 he married Mattie M. Lamb, born May 1872 in Emporia, Kansas They raised their family of five children in Emporia, KS: Anna J., born September 1893; Thomas G., born October 1896; Herbert, born June 1892 (who died at age 4 months); Julia M., born July 1899; and Mable. Anna was married twice; one husband's surname was Williams, and they had a daughter Mary Ellen. Julia died in 1934 in Emporia.

Mary CONCANNON, b. Ireland (no county) abt. 1848 m. Michael GLYNN. They went to the mining area around Manchester, Eng. where he was killed in an accident. The family moved to New York City. Among their several children was Thomas GLYNN, b. 1876, possibly in Ireland before their move to England or in the Manchester area (but no record of his birth in St. Catherine House in London.)

Concannon, Corcoran, and Sweeney families in Philadelpha, PA and Wilmington, DE in latter 1800s

Seeking CONCANNON and SWEENEY family connections in Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware. George CONCANNON b. ca. 1827 in County Donegal, Ireland, was a school teacher. His father James, a baker, died before family came to U.S. George, his mother Cecelia, brothers Edward, Patrick Joseph and Thomas and sister Catheine came to this country sometime before the Civil War (ship and date unknown)- probably even before 1850. George CONCANNON married Isabel SWEENEY (b. ca. 1829 in Ireland) about 1850. There is no record of their marriage in Philadelphia at Old St. Josephs or St. Marys churches, where te rest of family marriages, babtisms, etc are recorded. Family notes on the subject indicate that Isabel SWEENEY was from Wilmington, DE. and they may have been married there. It is believed that a Phil WALSH introduced Isabel and George. Also George CONCANNON worked at two jobs - he was the Superintendant of Washington Square, Phila. (whatever that is?) and worked at Phil WALSH'S Department Store near 2nd and Market Streets in Phila. WALSH also had a department store in Wilmington, De. George and Isabel CONCANNON settled in Philadelphia and all their nine children were born in Phila. They lived at the 400 block of Manning Street, and later at 7th and Pine and 324 Spruce Street. George CONCANNON'S sister Catherine married John P. FORD in Philadelphia about 1867. FORD helped manage WALSH'S Department Store in Wilmington, De. They had four children. The whole family died of typhoid in Wilmington. One of George and Isabel CONCANNON'S children, Catherine Philomena CONCANNON (b. 02/18/1869 prob Phila.), married Joseph Aloysius CORCORAN (b. 02/02/1869, prob Phila.) at Old St. Marys Church, Phila. on 11/25/1896. They had 8 children: George Concannon CORCORAN born in Phila. 06/20/1903; died 08/77/77 at Margate City N.J.

George CONCANNON is in the National Archives' Philadelphia Street directories for years- 1858, 1859, 1860, 1863, 1876, 1882, and 1883. The whole family including George's mother Cecelia shown as the widow of James at 616 Charles St, Phila., Pa. George was shown at 9 Landis Street. (Was advised that Landis St. is now Manning St.). The list of churches is great. The CORCORANS and CONCANNON were married, baptised, etc. in four of the listed churches. The info I am missing on the CONCANNONS is when and how they arrived in the U.S.
